Marino Leads Rams in Sweep of Keystone

La Plume, Penn. - The Farmingdale State baseball team swept Keystone in a pair of non-conference seven inning games this afternoon. The Rams improved to 6-8 on the season, while the Giants fell to 10-8.

Farmingdale State led off the game with an infield single by Tom Rydzewski (Franklin Square, N.Y.) and followed with an Anthony Alvino (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) single to left field. After a double steal, senior right fielder Michael Marino (Franklin Square, N.Y.) hit a 2 RBI double to left center which give the Rams a 2-0 lead. With one out, senior third baseman Anthony McQuade (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) had an RBI groundout which scored Marino and put Farmingdale State on top 3-0.

With two outs in the top of the second, Marino hit an RBI double down the left field line and sophomore catcher Nick Osburn (East Islip, N.Y.) followed with an RBI single to the pitcher to extend the advantage to 5-0.

The Rams allowed one run in the sixth inning as they earned a 5-1 victory in game one.

Marino was 3-for-3 with a run scored and 3 RBI, while Rydzewski was 2-for-4 and scored a run. Freshman center fielder Ryan Osborne (Westhampton Beach, N.Y.) was 2-for-2 at the plate for Farmingdale State.

Junior pitcher Kevin Cashman (Hicksville, N.Y.) earned the win after allowing only one hit in 3.2 innings of work. Freshman Christopher Reilly (Levittown, N.Y.) pitched the final 1.2 innings without allowing a hit to record the save.

In game two, the Rams jumped out to an early 1-0 lead and increased the advantage to 2-0 in the second inning when Reilly stole home. In FSC's next at-bat, junior catcher Ryan Jordan (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) hit an RBI single to left which put Farmingdale State ahead by three. The Rams added an unearned run to extend their lead to 4-0.

The Giants answered with two runs in the bottom of the second to cut the deficit in half.

In the top of the third, a 2-out PJ Harrington (Deer Park, N.Y.) RBI single to left gave the Rams a 5-3 edge.

Keystone added a run in the third and fourth innings to close within one, 5-4.

Farmingdale State held the Giants scoreless the remainder of the game as they won the second game 5-4 and recorded the non-conference sweep over Keystone.

Jordan finished the game 3-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI, while freshman Brian Brenton (Baiting Hollow, N.Y.) had two hits, a run batted in and scored a run. Freshman Brandon Ernest (Owings, MD) earned the win after allowing zero earned runs in 3.1 innings of relief. Senior Alex Pangourelias (Briarwood, N.Y.) pitched a scoreless seventh inning to record the save.

The Rams next will travel to St. Joseph's for a Skyline Conference doubleheader on Monday, April 6th at 4:00 p.m.
