Wayne, N.J. - The Farmingdale State baseball team traveled to William Paterson for their first game of the 2017 season and fell, 6-0.

In the bottom of the first, the Pioneers (3-0-1) opened the scoring on an RBI single to right field by senior catcher Eriq Colon (Hackensack, N.J.). In the next WP at-bat, senior catcher Mike Knauf (Manalapan, N.J.) followed with an RBI single to center to increase the lead to 2-0.

Junior right fielder Anthony Hoagland (Dumont, N.J.) led off the bottom of the third with a triple to center and later scored on a wild pitch to put William Paterson ahead, 3-0.

Leading 4-0 in the bottom of the seventh, a bases loaded 2 RBI double down the right field line by freshman designated hitter Carlos Perez (Hawthorne, N.J.) increased the WP advantage to 6-0.

Farmingdale State (0-1) was held to six hits by six different players in the season opening loss.

Senior center fielder Mike Abate (Wayne, N.J.) was 3-for-5 at the plate with two runs scored, while Knauf and Perez were each 1-for-3 with a pair of runs batted in.

Senior pitcher Matt Seelinger (Westbury, N.Y.) (0-1) took the loss after allowing three runs on four hits with five strikeouts in three innings of work. WP's Chris Babb (West Milford, N.J.) (2-0) earned the win after throwing four shutout innings, allowing two hits and striking out five.

FSC will now travel to Florida for the RussMatt Invitational. The Rams will play the first games of their annual spring trip with a doubleheader against Brockport State on Saturday, March 11th at 10:00 a.m.
