Benedictine Walks Off in Battle of Unbeatens

The Benedictine University baseball team improved to 5-0 on the year by scoring an 8-7 walk-off win over Marymount in Florida in a matchup of unbeaten teams.

Kevin Bushnell hit a solo homer in the first inning to put Benedictine ahead. Benedictine led for most of the game and was ahead 5-2 entering the ninth, but Marymount tallied five runs in the ninth to take the lead. Pinch hitter David Rubin drove home the first run of the ninth as Benedictine pulled within 7-6. Peter Turelli tied the game with a sacrifice fly and Anthony Lenza was the hero, legging out a bunt single with two away to knock home the winner.

Bushnell finished with four hits and drove home three. George Betevis and Ryan Doubek both notched a pair of hits. DeShawnte Carraway walked three times. JT Adams made his first start of the year and allowed two runs in seven innings, exiting with the lead after walking two and striking out six. Nolan Fasel recorded the final two outs of the ninth in his first outing of the year to earn the win. Marymount was 10-0 entering the contest.

Benedictine (5-0) is off tomorrow before meeting St. Mary's on Friday.
