Marymount Suffers First Loss in Ninth Inning Battle

DAVENPORT, Fla. - Saints baseball suffered their first loss of the season on Wednesday afternoon in a tight matchup between two teams receiving votes on the national stage. With the loss, Marymount sits at 10-1 on the season. HOW IT HAPPENED • The Saints fell behind quickly via a solo home run in the bottom of the first. • After a few quiet innings, Chad Singleton put MU ahead in the top of fifth with an RBI single up the middle, scoring Jonathan McMath and Kevin Knoess. • Falling behind 5-3, the Saints needed to put together some offense in the top of the ninth. • They did just that, taking advantage of some key mistakes from the Benedictine defense to push across five total runs to take the lead. Singleton picked up his third RBI of the day in the inning. • The Eagles were able to apply pressure in the bottom of the ninth, ultimately scoring three to walk off with the win. • Ryan Mariani showed well on the mound for the Saints, pitching 6.1 solid innings, allowing just three earned runs with three total strikeouts. • Singleton went 2-for-4 on the day with his trio of RBI. • Alec Reilly, Bobby Leitzel, and Knoess each collected a hit. • Jordan Dickson notched an RBI and a run scored. • Knoess and McMath each scored a pair of runs, with Ryan Wright adding one. • Quincy Via stole a bag after pinch hitting in the top of the ninth.
