Championship games set for Sunday

Ryan Dorosh pitched a complete-game shutout, striking out 14 batters to lead Misericordia to a 4-0 victory over FDU-Florham.

DeSales moved into the Freedom Championship with a 5-1 win over Manhattanville as the Valiant offense was held to just five hits by Bulldog pitching. With the loss Manhattanville played Misericordia, a 4-0 winner over FDU-Florham. Misericordia will return to the Freedom Conference championship game for the third straight season after earning a 10-6 victory over Manhattanville in the loser's bracket final.

Farmingdale State advanced to their sixth straight Skyline Conference Finals after defeating second-seeded Old Westbury 5-1. The Rams enter the Championship game without a loss in the Playoffs. The Panthers followed this loss with a win to stay alive for the conference championship. Old westbury defeated SUNY-Maritime 21-2 to set up a rematch with Farmingdale state. Suny-Maritime defeated SUNY-Purchase 14-8 to reach the elimination bracket final.

Louisiana College rallied from an 8-0 deficit to force Concordia-Texas into extra innings, and a two-out single in the bottom of the tenth gave the WildCats a 13-12 win. Louisiana College then followed this with a 9-5 win over Texas Lutheran to face Texas-Tyler in the ASC championship game. Texas Tyler reached the finals with a 11-3 win over Texas Lutheran.

Keystone advanced to the championship game of CSAC Tournament with a 14-4 victory over Neumann, the Giants 13th consecutive win. Top-seeded Keystone will play for their fifth-straight CSAC title at Bear Stadium in Boyertown, PA. The Giants enter Championship Sunday undefeated in the double-elimination tournament.  Keystone will play Neumann, a 10-4 winner over Centenary in the final game on Saturday.

Kean lost twice on Saturday, first 4-3 to Rowan and then 5-6 to Ramapo. With the two top seeds out of the tournament, Rowan and Ramapo will play for the NJAC championship and a playoff berth on Sunday. William Paterson lost 2-6 to Ramapo inbetween the two Kean losses.

The top two seeds, Cal Lutheran and Pomona-Pitzer have advanced to the championship game of the Inaugural SCIAC Post Season Tournament being hosted at George “Sparky” Anderson Field in Ullman Stadium after winning on Saturday. Cal Lutheran defeated Redlands 5-2 while Pomona-Pitzer needed two wins to live to play another day and did so by defeating both Occidental 5-2 and Redlands 14-2.

Penn State Abington started today needing two wins to advance to tomorrow's championship game of the NEAC Tournament. The Nittany Lions earned a hard-fought 5-3 win in game one over hosts Gallaudet, but then the Blue and White dropped a 4-3 decision to Penn State Berks. Penn State Berks will square off in the title game against Penn State Harrisburg on Sunday. Berks will need to beat Penn State Harrisburg two times to win their third straight conference crown.

Western New England defeated Wentworth, 17-1, and Salve Regina, 10-7, to advance to tomorrow's CCC championship game, at Pat Ricci Field at Trelease Park. The top-seeded Golden Bears (31-10 overall) will face the winner of No. 2 Endicott College versus No. 3 Salve Regina. In the middle game of the day, Endicott used a four-run fourth inning to take the lead and never looked back defeating Roger Williams 5-1 and bouncing the Hawks from the CCC tournament.

Pinch hitter Tim Smith delivered a first-pitch, two-RBI single and scored in the bottom of the ninth, as Oswego State stunned Fredonia, 9-8, in an elimination game at the SUNYAC Baseball Championship. The Lakers lost their first game of the day to third-ranked Cortland, 8-3, but will face the Red Dragons in a rematch on Sunday. Fredonia eliminated New Platz 6-4.

Gettysburg lost two heart-breaking games in the late innings to end their quest for a Conference championship. Franklin & Marshall overcame a two-run deficit in the top of the ninth and outlasted Gettysburg 5-4 in a dramatic 11-inning contest in the winner's bracket of the Centennial Conference Tournament. Sophomore Colin McCarthy hit a first-pitch walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth to send the No. 6 Johns Hopkins Blue Jays to the Centennial Conference championship as it defeated Gettysburg, 9-8. With the early win, Franklin and Marshall advances to tomorrow's championship round and sits in the driver's seat, as top-seeded Johns Hopkins will need to defeat the Diplomats twice to capture the CC crown.

Senior pitcher Bobby Della Polla threw a complete game to lead the Royals to a 5-4 victory over Catholic.

Scranton got off to a strong start in the Landmark Conference playoffs, defeating top-seeded Catholic, 5-4, in a first-round game at Talbot Field on the campus of Catholic University. The victory puts the Royals in the winners' bracket where they will play Moravian, a 9-4 winner over Merchant-Marine.

Richard Fecteau went 3-for-5, and Steve Buitkus blasted a leadoff home run as top seeded Salem State advanced to the 2013 MASCAC championship game with a 7-3 victory over  No. 2 Framingham State on. The Vikings, seeking their first MASCAC Championship since 2006 will play the Westfield State Owls, who knocked off Framingham State 9-1 and Worcester State 2-1.

Penn State Behrend split a non-conference doubleheader with Bethany. The Bison took game one 1-0 before the Lions got revenge with a 5-4 walk-off win in the nightcap. In the opener, the Behrend was unable to plate a run despite seven hits. Bethany starting pitcher Brad Kubis earned the complete-game win with seven strong innings and eight strikeouts. Matt Bittner led the offense with a 2-for-3 day at the dish. The Lions suffered their first loss since April 18.

UW-Oshkosh earned a sweep of UW-Platteville at Tiedemann Field. Brock Guetzke allowed just one run in 6.2 relief innings as the Titans came back for a 9-6 opener victory. Kachel then ripped a solo homer in the eighth inning to take the second game, 4-3.

Pacific scored six of their seven runs in the first two including, including a four-run third keyed by Colin McCusker’s two-run double, as the Boxers went on to the 7-6 win over Whitman.  Pacific also scored first in their finale against Puget Sound, but the Loggers senior Stephen Kelsey had three hits and four RBIs over two games to help power Puget Sound to a 9-4 win over Pacific in its season finale. In the morning, the Loggers fell to Whitman 3-2.

The Bridgewater (Va.) Eagles set a new program record for wins in a season.

Bridgewater (Va.) closed out its regular season by sweeping both ends of a doubleheader from Wesley, winning the opener 7-4 and taking the nightcap 3-1. With the two victories, the Eagles improve to 33-11 on the season, a new program record for wins in a season. The Eagles will await the playoff selection committee's determination on Sunday May 12 to find out if their seeason continues.

Washington & Jefferson secured its second-straight Presidents’ Athletic Conference regular-season championship with a doubleheader sweep of Westminster. Eddie Nogay fired a complete-game shutout as W&J took game one 9-0. The Presidents then rolled to a 13-2 triumph during the nightcap. The Presidents will host the PAC Tournament beginning Thursday at Ross Memorial Park. W&J will be playing at home during the tournament for the seventh time in the last nine seasons. The top seeded Presidents will face fourth-seeded Saint Vincent, while No. 2 Thiel will take on No. 3 Thomas More.

Jonathan Dennett went 5-for-8 with three runs and a double to lead the visiting Wesleyan Cardinals to an 8-6, 6-4 doubleheader sweep against the Trinity Bantams in the regular-season finale for both teams. Both teams will be competing in the NESCAC Championship Tournament next weekend as the top-seeded representative of the NESCAC East (Trinity) and NESCAC West (Wesleyan) Divisions, respectively. The Cardinals are hosting the tournament, and Trinity is the defending league champion.
