Pitching and offense on display Friday

No. 22 Augustana rebounded from a 4-3, extra inning loss in game one to defeat Plymouth State 8-3 in game two of a doubleheader on the Vikings' second spring-break trip of the season. Plymouth State's Eric Leitch socked a one out RBI double to give Plymouth State a 4-3 victory. In game two, The Vikings led 6-0 heading into the top of the sixth and cruised to split on the day.

For the second time in less than a week, Cal Lutheran earned another 4-3 walk off win as the Kingsmen came from behind to defeat UW-La Crosse in the bottom of the ninth Friday. No. 10 Rowan defeated No. 3 Southern Maine, 2-1 in its final game at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. In the eighth inning, first baseman Rich Powelson reached on an error and scored the winning run on right fielder Ryan Pavlik's single later in the inning. The Huskies were winners in the late game, defeating Framingham State 10-0.

Brett Wagner pitched a two-hit shutout and received plenty of support from the Greyhound lineup in an eight-run third inning to take game two of a doubleheader with Drew, 10-0. Drew won game one 2-1.

Junior Brooks Fortenberry struck out nine and allowed just five hits in 8.2 innings to help  Mississippi College pick up a 5-1 win over #24 LeTourneau at Frierson Field. Fortenberry got in a jam in the ninth and Senior Blake Roberts came out of the bullpen to get the final out and earn his second save of the season.

Misericordia opened Freedom Conference action with a 28-2 win at Manhattanville. After taking a 6-0 lead in the first inning, the Cougars opened a 14-2 lead before scoring 14 runs in the eighth inning. Kyle Lindsay had four hits and Jeremy DeCotiis drove in four runs to lead the Cougars.

Everett Walsh’s two-run walk-off single in the 10th inning lifted Massachusetts Maritime to a 7-6 victory over Emerson.

The Fitchburg State Falcons extend its winning streak to three games, defeating Wentworth Tech, 10-4 in non-conference action at Pappas Field on the campus of Franklin Pierce. Fitchburg State's offensive charge was led by Brendan Cutler, who finished 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs scored and three RBI.

The Springfield College baseball team beat William Paterson, 7-5 in comeback fashion on Thursday being strong offense from Frank Calabrese (East Longmeadow, Mass.).

Springfield has posted a record of 5-1 on its Spring Break trip in Florida.

On Thursday, first-year Tyler Kelly (Absecon, N.J.) earned the win in relief, the first win of his collegiate career. Sophomore Dan Green (Oakland, N.J.) closed the game out on the mound for the Pride to earn the save.

No. 8 Cortland swept New Paltz in the conference opener for both teams at Cornell University's David F. Hoy Field. The Red Dragons took game one, 13-3, and taking a 4-0 shutout in game two.

Scott Weinschenk pitched a complete game four hitter as Concordia (Texas) defeated East Texas Baptist 10-0. Weinschenk did not walk a batter but allowed three base runners by HBP. He struck out nine in the game.

Johns Hopkins finished with 20-plus hits for the second straight game, as the team cruised to its sixth straight victory over Bethel 12-2. Junior Colin McCarthy notched his second career four-hit game in the victory. Seniors Richie Carbone, Jonathan Hettleman, Mike Denlinger and John Maxwell all had multi-hit games.

Endicott won a pair of Friday games at the RussMatt Invitational over Benedictine and Oswego State on their spring break venture to Central Florida. Against Benedictine, the Gulls were in command the entire game with five strong innings from Tyler Hill and four RBIs from outfielder Tad Gold. Endicott needed some late offense in game two to earn the win over the Lakers.

After dropping game one 3-2 this morning, Evan Young shined in game two against Centenary to pick up a 4-0 win for the Falcons. Young pitched a complete game shutout, allowing just three hits and striking out eight. The win brought the Falcons' record to .500 and ended the team's Spring Break trip on a high note.

UW-Platteville received a strong pitching outing from junior Mike Boushley in a 6-0 win over Nichols. Boushley pitched the complete game allowing only seven hits while walking one and striking out eight on his way to his first shutout of the season.

Franklin scored eight runs in the fourth inning and recorded its third shutout of the season in defeating Mount St. Joseph 9-0 to open HCAC play from Marge Schott Stadium at University of Cincinnati. Franklin got six hits in the eight-run fourth inning – the highest scoring inning of the season for the Grizzlies.

Perry Rigby went 4-for-4 with three RBI in Covenant's win over the Pride.

Covenant routed USA South foe Greensboro 14-1 in seven innings, the Scots' fourth straight in conference play. Perry Rigby and KC Simons led the offense with three RBI apiece. In all, seven different players recorded at least one RBI for Covenant.

WPI handed Johnson & Wales its first loss of the season, winning an 11-6 slugfest at Scotts Miracle-Gro Field. It was the Crimson and Gray's second game in four days at JWU, having fallen 3-1 to the Wildcats on Tuesday. Senior captains Sean Kelly and David Trujillo combined for five hits and each drove in three runs to blast the Engineers to victory.

Fifth-ranked Wisconsin Stevens-Point swept a doubleheader from Washington & Jefferson.  The Pointers (10-1) won game one 6-1 and then posted an 8-0 shutout in the nightcap. Max Frederick and Luke Watson continued the Pointers string of quality starts.

Lancaster Bible faced a formidable foe in Dickinson and the visiting Red Devils did not disappoint as they used an eight-run first inning to defeat the Chargers, 23-9 at Charger Field. Thirteen different Dickinson players recorded a hit, led by Mark Adams who had three, including a first inning grand slam.

No. 12 Wheaton (Mass.) played to a 5-5 tie against Suffolk at Sidell Stadium. The contest was called after the completion of the 12th inning due to darkness. Today's game marks the fifth tie in program history for the Lyons in 712 games played since 1998.

Travis Lane (Canton, Conn.) tossed a one-hitter in the nightcap to help the Springfield College baseball team earn a doubleheader split with Trinity College on Sunday.
