After spending the last month confined to the indoors, Loras was ready to kick off their 2015 campaign in Auburndale, Florida. The Duhawks overcame a three run deficit to St. Mary's (Minn.) and walked off on Anthony Flattery's single for a 6-5 win (listen to the play) Loras could not find the offensive touch in the nighcap and wasted a two hit outing by two Loras hurlers, losing 1-0. Jacob Dawson earned the win as St. Mary's (Minn.) scored an unearned run in the sixth inning.
The first eight innings of Scranton's season opener went according to plan. Unfortunately for the Royals, Johnson & Wales had the final say in the bottom of the ninth. The Wildcats scored five times in the bottom of the ninth to surprise the Royals, 9-8, at The Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Olivet fell to Ohio Northern, 6-5, in its season-opener at the Gene Cusic Classic and inside the Player Development Complex in Fort Myers, Florida. At the plate, the Comets had six total hits. Stephen Botti was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Mount Union knocked off the No. 9 ranked team in the nation beating Concordia-Chicago, 6-4 at Chain O'Lakes Stadium in Winter Haven, Fla. With the score tied 4-4 in the seventh, Sean Mohney and Anthony Morino each drove in runs to give the Purple Raiders a 6-4 lead. Four Mount Union pitchers combined to scatter nine hits over nine innings as Beau Taylor surrendered three runs on seven hits over 5.1 innings while Kyle Toma allowed two hits over 1.1 innings of relief to pick up his second win of the season.
Milwaukee School of Engineering jumped out to a 4-2 lead after 3 1/2 innings, but Rose-Hulman answered with two runs in the fourth and four in the sixth to secure the 8-5 victory. The Rose-Hulman offensive attack featured 13 hits, including six players with multiple-hit games. Junior Kody Alayon and junior Donnie Waters led the way with a single, double, one run and one RBI. Cody Sunderhaus added a double, a single and scored once.

Junior Brandon Maddern turned in his second strong start of the year as the Blue Streaks cruised to a 12-2 win over Baruch in Ft. Myers, Fla. The left-hander fired eight shutout innings only allowing three hits. He ran into a jam in the sixth loading the bases but was able to escape. Maddern regrouped retiring the next six Bearcat hitters getting the last three via strikeouts in the eight.
After trailing throughout most of the afternoon, Trine rallied back with a five-run eighth to defeat previously-unbeaten Aurora, 7-6. The Thunder trailed by as much as four runs, before scoring a single run in the seventh and scoring five in the eighth to take the lead. Drew Palmer was a perfect 5-of-5 at the plate with two doubles and an RBI for Trine. Palmer's performance was just the second five-hit game at the school in the last 10 years.
Jim Tunison and the Misericordia bullpen have been terrific so far this season and this afternoon was no exception. First year third baseman Chad Bell provided some timely hitting, making sure the effort didn't go to waste as the Cougars overcame an early deficit with a 4-2 victory over Susquehanna.
St John's Johnnies swept a doubleheader from Bluffton on Thursday. The Johnnies won game one, 10-0, and they scored five runs in the bottom of the ninth to win game number two, 14-13. In the opener, St John's starter Tyler Delwiche threw a gem, going six innings and giving up just three runs while striking out 10 Bluffton hitters.
