“Rain, rain, go away.” The rain went away for the most part on Friday and most of the day’s scheduled games were played. The day was headlined by a pair of no-hitters from the upper Midwest. Macalester’s Cole Chang pitched a seven-inning no-hitter in a 5-0 shutout victory over Augsburg on Friday afternoon at Nicholson Field. Chang needed just 78 pitches to complete the first no-hitter at the school under 21-year head coach Matt Parrington. The Scots completed the MIAC doubleheader sweep of Augsburg with 22 runs on 22 hits, including 13 extra-base hits, in a 22-1 triumph.

Not to be outdone, Illinois Tech’s Kyle Bumpass was nearly perfect as he shut out Maranatha Baptist, 3-0, with a seven-inning no-hitter in a first game of a doubleheader in Chicago. Bumpass faced three batters over the minimum, struck out nine and tossed strikes on 55 of 79 pitches. He walked one and two MBU hitters reached via error. Illinois Tech completed the Chi-Town sweep with another 3-0 clean sheet. Scarlet Hawk starter Ryan Cantlin struck out 11 and conceded just six hits in complete game shutout performance.
No-hitters were one highlight from Friday, landmark wins were another. Adrian defeated visiting Calvin in MIAA play on Friday evening, 7-0 and 8-3, giving head coach Craig Rainey wins No. 599 and 600 in his 24 seasons at the helm of the Bulldogs.
"I am proud for the program and all the players that have been a part of those wins. I have been very fortunate to have great assistant coaches and many outstanding players during this run," Rainey said about his victory milestone. "Adrian College has been great to me and our baseball program. I can't thank (Athletics Director) Mike Duffy and President (Dr. Jeffrey R.) Docking enough for allowing me to do something, I love. It's a GDTBAB."
Junior Tommy Parsons (5-1) threw his second complete-game shutout in a row by limiting the Knights to four hits and striking out five batters in Adrian’s Game 1 victory. In the nightcap, freshman Pierce Banks (4-0) tossed a one-hitter and had a career-best eight strikeouts over seven innings. He allowed an unearned run and walked just one. Junior Hunter Hayes led all Bulldogs with four RBI in the twin bill, while freshman Tristin Richardson added three.
Six Top 25 teams were in action on Friday. Second ranked La Grange clinched the USA South regular season title and reached the 30-win plateau for the second-straight year with a 3-1 victory over Maryville (Tenn.) at Scotland Yard. Ryan Broaderick (7-1) struck out nine over 6.1 innings to remain undefeated.

Texas Lutheran moved into first place in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference with an 11-0 shutout victory over #10 Centenary (La.) under the lights in Shreveport. The Bulldogs picked up their 20th win behind a complete game five-hit shutout from Nathan Malinovsky. Eric Rabinowitz and Riley Schafer each belted a three-run home run for TLU.
#11 Alvernia began a critical MAC Commonwealth conference series against Widener with a 6-3 win Friday afternoon behind eight strong innings from John Catchmark. The sophomore scattered eight hits over eight innings with eight strikeouts and senior Cameron Coons drove in three runs for the Crusaders to fuel the offense.
On the first pitch of his at bat in the bottom of the 10th, junior Will Costinett smashed a home run over the left field wall to give Belhaven a walk-off win over #12 Texas-Dallas, 5-3, on Friday evening from Smith-Wills Stadium in the first game of an American Southwest Conference series. Costinett’s winning clout was his ninth home run of the season and second walk-off winner.
#17 The College of New Jersey scored six runs in the final three innings to steal a game from Rutgers University-Camden on Friday afternoon in Camden, NJ. After being held scoreless for the opening six frames and trailing 4-0, TCNJ came to life with three runs in the seventh, two in the eight, and one in the ninth for the come-from-behind win
Out west, #19 Cal Lutheran picked up its 12th straight win and seventh in SCIAC play with a 13-3 decision over Whittier. Marshall Pautsch (4-1) pitched all seven innings for CLU and scattered 10 hits while striking out seven and allowing just three runs. At the plate, every Kingsmen had a hit led by three apiece from Gabe Gunter and Jimmy Jauregui.
Belhaven wasn’t the only walk-off winner on Friday. Bowdoin scored a run in the ninth to force extra innings but senior captain Brendan Fox singled home first-year Will Sylvia in the bottom of the 10th to propel the Bates to a 3-2 victory over the Polar Bears Friday afternoon at Colby’s Coombs Field. Bates improved to 4-0 in the NESCAC East and the Bobcats current four game conference winning streak is the longest since 2012.

Sophomore TC Conrad scored the game-winning run on a one-out wild pitch in the bottom of the 10th inning to give host Washington (Md.) a 9-8 walk-off win over visiting Swarthmore on Friday afternoon in a Centennial Conference baseball game at Athey Baseball Park.
Staying in the NESCAC East, sophomore lefty Erik Mohl pitched a complete game, scattering 10 hits and walking two with two strikeouts, to lead Trinity (Conn.) to a 6-3 victory over the visiting Colby Friday afternoon at Murren Family Field at DiBenedetto Stadium. Mohl garnered his NESCAC leading sixth victory in only his second start of the spring. Trinity led wire-to-wire and the Bantams never looked back after scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning.
From the NESCAC to the NEWMAC, Clark scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth and the host Cougars took game one of a three-game series with WPI, 8-5, on Friday afternoon. The game was played through heavy spurts of rain. The win for the Cougars tied the school record for wins in a season (18) – a benchmark they set last season – in their first campaign under head coach J.P. Pyne.
Playing at home for the first time this spring, Western New England put 12 runs on the board in the third inning and rolled to a 17-0 shutout victory over Keene State College on Friday afternoon in non-conference action at Trelease Park. Sophomore outfielder Erik Lacaire led Western New England's offensive onslaught, going 2-for-3 with a walk, three runs scored and five RBI. Sophomores Joe Cassella and Aaron Rios recorded three hits each, while freshman Zac Nussbaum walked, singled, and drove in three runs. Six Golden Bear pitchers combined on a four-hit shutout.
Rivalries were also part of Friday’s action on different coasts. Sophomore southpaw Chris Babb went the distance in a complete game three-hitter and William Paterson’s bats came alive late to trip up Route 46 rival Montclair State, 7-1, in NJAC action. Babb conceded one unearned run on three hits, walked four and struck out four in a 113-pitch outing. WP trailed, 1-0, through 5 and then scored two runs in the sixth, one in the seventh and four in the eighth. In Southern California, Pomona Pitzer took the first game of the Sixth Street Rivalry, 9-8, from Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Friday afternoon at Alumni Field. The Sagehens were led by senior Tanner Nishioka who went 3-4 with two runs scored and one RBI.

Elsewhere, Stockton used a six-run third inning and held on for a slim 6-5 win over Rowan on a chilly Friday afternoon in the NJAC. Stockton’s six-run surge came on five hits and erased a 3-0 lead for the Profs. Nick LaPorta and David Mann each drove in two runs for the Osprey in the third. Stockton freshman Tyler Apt tossed four shutout innings of relief to hold off Rowan for his first career save. Joe Pipher helped by making two diving catches in left field to preserve the lead.
There was streaking going on in Brooklyn Friday afternoon. Case Western Reserve extended its winning streak to seven-straight games with a 5-3 win in the opening game of a four-game UAA series against NYU at MCU Park in Brooklyn, New York. Senior left fielder Josh Neal led the Spartans, going three-for-four with a walk and his second home run of the season. With the performance, he raised his batting average to .328 for the season, and is hitting .500 (eight-for-16) with two doubles, a triple, two home runs and six runs batted in over his last four games. Sophomore Mark Gross earned the win on the mound, allowing just three runs on seven hits and a walk over seven innings of work, and striking out four batters.
A pair of freshmen helped lead their teams to victories. Freshman Joe Gallatin hit two home runs including a go-ahead blast in the bottom of the eighth inning lifting Manchester to a 4-3 victory over Earlham in HCAC play on Friday in North Manchester. Gallatin, who put the Spartans ahead 2-0 with a home run to right center field in the second, took a 2-1 pitch in the eighth and swatted it over the right center field fence in the eighth, breaking a 3-3 deadlock. Manchester has five wins in its last seven HCAC tilts.
Southern Maine freshman Dylan Hapworth went 3-for-4 with a home run, three RBI and four runs scored to lead the USM to a 15-8 victory over Salem State on Friday afternoon at Central Campus Baseball Field. Hapworth struck for one of three Huskies home runs as part of an 18-hit offensive explosion in the win. Sophomore Jake Dexter was 3-for-5 with four RBI, while Devin Warren collected four of USM's 18 hits in a 4-for-5 effort.
Farmingdale State racked up 29 hits in a non-conference doubleheader sweep of Lehman on Long Island. The Rams registered 20 hits in a 14-4 victory in the opener and then scored five runs on nine hits to shade the Lightning, 5-3, in the night cap.
Out west, Mary Hardin-Baylor grabbed an early lead and then snuffed out a late comeback bid as the Cru topped Howard Payne 4-1 Friday night in Belton. Nathan Kent scattered three hits and allowed only an unearned run for UMHB to improve to 4-3 on the year. He struck out six and walked just two. Aaron Barteau struck out six batters in two innings to notch his eighth save of the year.
The longest walk-off win came in Iowa. Tyler Imrich connected on a two-out RBI single in the 13th inning to lift Dubuque over Simpson, 5-4, at Spartan Field in IIAC play. Simpson snatched a 4-3 lead with two runs in the top of the eighth inning only to watch Dubuque tie the game on a two-out RBI single in the home half of the frame. In the 13th, a pair of two-out walks and a hit batsmen set the stage for Tyler Imrich’s game-winning heroics.
