Multiple Fontbonne baseball players had great games today as the Griffins swept Eureka 5-0 and 13-1 in seven-inning games. The highlight though was junior Vince Santarsiero throwing a no-hitter while only walking two Red Devils.
Tanner Carter threw a complete-game shutout with 11 strikeouts for the Griffin's first win of the season. Vince Santarsiero led the Griffins in game one against Dominican with 10 strikeouts in six innings. The junior left the game with a 5-2 lead with only one earned run, but the Griffins fell 10-5.
Fontbonne righthanded senior Jacob Becker threw a no-hitter to open SLIAC play against Principia. This was the third no-hitter thrown by a Fontbonne pitcher.
Christopher Newport and Piedmont won easily to open the 2013 USA South tournament on Thursday. In St. Loius, Washington (Mo.) hit back-to-back-to-back home runs in their win over Fontbonne.
