The Benedictine University baseball team is heading the the NCAA Regionals for the first time since 2013 by virtue of winning the 2024 NACC Tournament Championship. The team secured the automatic bid by winning the winner-take-all contest 13-8 over Aurora.
A .611 week with 14 runs scored and 14 RBI, a four-hit complete game against a top-five team, and two dominant relief appearances captured the final National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Div. III honors for 2024. This week’s selections were based on games played April 29 through May 5.
In a game circled on most NACC fans calendar, No. 12 Benedictine swept a pair from No. 10 Aurora. Benedictine remains one of four teams in the NACC with a perfect conference record and now holds the tiebreaker over Aurora.
For the first time the top three teams in the D3baseball.com/NCBWA Top 25 remained the same with Shenandoah, Endicott and Baldwin Wallace holding their positions. Lower in the Top 25, there is a shakeup with undefeated Benedictine and Kalamazoo showing up for the first time.
Benedictine (7-0) and Kalamazoo (8-0) stayed perfect through games on Saturday. Benedictine did it with a 6-2 win over Hope and Kalamazoo swept a pail in Jacksonville, Illinois. Other teams who have played a minimum of five games and are still without a loss include No. 2 Endicott (6-0), Johnston and Wales (5-0) and Whitworth (10-0).
No. 15 Aurora is the only ranked team in the preseason rankings but not the only team that is expected to compete and win at their level. You don't need to get out of the NACC to see that Benedictine is more experienced in 2024 and will challenge the Spartans not only for top conference team honors but on the national stage as well.
