    Dennis Martel announced that he will retire after the conclusion of the 2024 season. Hired as Illinois Wesleyan's head baseball coach in 1988 at the age of 23, Martel was the youngest head collegiate baseball coach in the state of Illinois. Ahead of the 2024 season, Martel will coach his final season as the oldest baseball collegiate coach in the state.

    BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – A offensive onslaught and a walk-off winner highlighted the Illinois Wesleyan University baseball team's sweep of Wartburg College in non-conference action Saturday, March 13, at Horenberger Field. The Titans upped their record to 5-3, while the Knights slipped to 2-4. Illinois Wesleyan used breakout offensive performances to overpower Wartburg 13-10 in game one, before freshman Evan Hutson's (Normal, Ill.-Normal West) walk-off single gave IWU a 6-5 victory in the nightcap.

Except for Illinois Wesleyan, that day ended with a loss to Concordia (Ill.), a 7-6 home defeat that left the Titans 14-17. At 8-7 in the CCIW, there was a chance that the Titans wouldn't even make the conference tournament.
