Rose-Hulman senior Jonathan Banks tossed six shutout innings and a balanced attack provided the offense as the Fightin' Engineers topped Wartburg 7-1 for their first win of the 2017 season. Banks tossed six shutout innings to pick up the win. He allowed just five hits and no walks with a career-high eight strikeouts in the victory. Trevor Dallio, Austin Allen and Ian Grant picked up three outs each out of the bullpen to secure the win.
Lyndon State split a doubleheader with Cabrini, losing 5-4 in the opener and holding on for a 6-5 victory in the second game. Ben Rollins had four hits on the day for the Hornets. Shaun Stackhouse, Tyler Norris, and Jesse James Murphey had two hits for the Cabrini Cavaliers.
Saint John's swept NAIA Valley City State, 9-3 and 2-1 in eight innings at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. Senior third baseman Derek Schiebel led SJU at the plate, going 6-for-7 with four doubles and five RBI in the two games. The six-hit performance enabled him to move into seventh on SJU's all-time hits list at 140.
The Ozark Eagles racked up 14 hits and got an outstanding pitching performance from freshman Tre Crockett to pick up an 8-3 win over Hendrix. Crockett threw 4.1 innings as the starter and had a shutout going through his entire time on the mound. Crockett allowed four hits and was eventually charged with two earned runs. But the Eagles got behind the freshman and spotted him five runs after three innings.
No. 6 Shenandoah continued its winning ways with a 9-4 non-league baseball victory over Elizabethtown. Shenandoah broke open a tie game with two runs in sixth, three in the seventh and three more in the eighth off of a pair of Blue Jays relievers.
After allowing eight runs in the first inning, Hanover scored 10 unanswered runs to come all the way back and defeat Alma 10-8 to cap its annual winter break trip to Florida with a win. In the first inning, the Scots came out swinging in the home half of the inning. Alma tallied eight hits, two walks, a hit-by-pitch, and an error to take an 8-0 lead. Things looked bleak as the Panthers managed only one baserunner the first time through the line-up, but things changed in the fourth when Hanover scored eight runs of their own to tie the score.
