MORRISTOWN, N.J. - The College of Saint Elizabeth's athletic department has announced the addition of men's baseball to begin in the 2019-20 academic year.
Baseball will be the sixth men's sport at CSE after going co-educational in 2016. Baseball will join soccer, cross country, basketball, volleyball and tennis in addition to six women sports.
Director of Athletics, Juliene Brazinski Simpson, is excited about the addition of baseball. "We are excited and look forward to the continued growth in our athletic department. This is a great time to add a baseball team as we continue to grow as a college."
In April, CSE announced it would be joining the Colonial States Athletic Association (CSAC) for the 2019-20 season. CSE will join Wilson College, Bryn Athyn College, Centenary University, Keystone College. Rosemont College, Clarks Summit University, and Cairn University. The CSAC provides each team with a full regular season schedule and the opportunity for post-season play, as well as the conference's automatic NCAA post-season berth.
Without currently having a field on campus, the baseball team will look to play at a local field in Morris Township or the surrounding community. Simpson believes the local area will help bring in strong student-athletes to the program. "This has been a great baseball area and we look forward to building a strong competitive team."
There is currently a search underway for the first head coach in program history to recruit a team during the 2018-19 academic year. "We don't want to hit a home run with our first coach, we want to hit a grand slam," stated Simpson.
According to the NCAA Sports Sponsorship and Participation Rates Report, baseball has the second highest participation rate among NCAA DIII institutions with over 13,000 student-athletes competing at 383 DIII institutions.
CSE's first ever game will take place in the spring of 2020.
