Morris returns to roots, takes reins of Husson program

BANGOR, Maine – Returning to his roots, Chris Morris '10, a Husson baseball alumni, will be stepping into the role of head baseball coach, as announced by the Director of Athletics Frank Pergolizzi on Monday afternoon. 

"We are thrilled to have Chris take the reins of our baseball program, announces Pergolizzi. "Chris certainly has a love for Husson University and Husson baseball. His experience at other top-notch Division III institutions as well as collegiate summer wooden bat baseball will be of much value to our program. We are confident that Husson baseball will continue to experience great success."

Morris graduated from Husson University in 2010 as a four-year letter winner and team captain for the baseball squad while also lettering twice in football. He began his coaching career with the Eagles in 2012 as the pitching coach while helping football as the wide receivers coach his first year and defensive backs coach in 2013 and 2014. After three successful years on the Husson staff including a North Atlantic Conference Baseball Title in 2013, Morris continued to build his career as an assistant baseball coach at MIT from 2015-18. He helped the Engineers' capture a win in the 2016 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship before settling in at Brandeis University as the assistant baseball coach and recruiting coordinator in 2018. 

Morris is excited to return to the place where his love of baseball began. "I would like to thank President Clark, Frank Pergolizzi and the athletic staff. Husson is such an outstanding place to work and the people who work here every day make it so special." 

He will be taking over a winning program that recently earned a NAC Baseball Tournament Championship Title in the 2019 season. "I am very honored to be named the head baseball coach at Husson University," remarks Morris. "It is with great pride that I take this position. There has always been a strong tradition of success in the baseball program and I look forward to continuing that success." 

The former Eagle brings ample experience working with collegiate athletes, both as a head coach and assistant coach. Morris kept himself busy during the summers, starting out as the pitching coach for the Sanford Mainers in the New England Collegiate Baseball League, before being promoted to head coach in 2016. In his first year at the helm, he led the Moose to the NECBL Northern Division Title and was named the 2016 Joel Cooney Manager of the Year for his efforts.Morris held this position for the past four summers, helping fill a competitive 30-man roster with top collegiate talent from across the country. 

A Hampden, Maine native, Morris will return to his hometown with his wife and son after four years spent in Massachusetts. "I certainly wouldn't be where I am at if it was not for my wife Kathleen, she is an unbelievable mother and wife. I thank her for all of her love and support."
