Huntingdon and William Peace open with wins

Huntingdon and William Peace earned their first wins in their season opener. The Hawk prevailed 13-2 over Edgewood and William Peace took a pair from Methodist. Greensboro and Lynchburg also earned wins on Saturday as they split a pair.

Lynchburg split a slugfest of a doubl header with Greensboro Saturday afternoon, as the Hornets came away with a 10-5 win in game one, but came up short in game two falling 10-9. The Hornets recieved strong pitching out of the bullpen from seniors Adam Dofflemyer and Grayson Thurman as the two seniors combined for the final five frames of the game as Thurman struck out seven in his three innings of work to earn his first win on the younng campaign. Five Hornets had two RBIs and five had a multi-hit game as Fiedler led the way going 3-for-5 with two RBIs.

In game two,the Greensboro Pride scored the first run of game two as Michael Garvey Jr. made his way around the base paths thanks to a lead-off single and eventually came home on a wild pitch. The Pride and Hornets traded a run a piece in the second inning and then the Pride took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning with two runs sparked by a Chance Bryant double. Lynchburg countered with a five-run fifth inning, but the Pride roared back in the bottom half of the inning. The Pride posted six runs on five hits, led by a double from Jacob Rodriguez. Lynchburg countered with one run per inning for the next three innings to close the Pride lead to one run. Eli Moravick faced runners in scoring position with one out and forced two swinging strikeouts to seal the win for the Pride and earn his first save of the season.

William Peace won their first two games of the
season defeating Methodist 7-5, 16-9.

Covenant won both games in a doubleheader against Johnson on Saturday afternoon. The Scots beat the visiting Royals 9-4 in game one and 11-1 in game two. The bats for the Scots were hot in game one, as they scored nine runs off of 10 hits. Nick Pettit got the start on the mound for the Scots. Pettit pitched 4.2 innings and only allowed one hit. It was a similar story in game two, as the bats continued to stay hot for the Scots. Covenant recorded 10 hits and nine RBIs for the contest. Josh Harvey was 2-for-4 with four RBI, and Ken Burke went 2-for-3. Over both games, the Scots had 20 hits and 16 RBIs.

On Friday, Covenant opened up the home season this afternoon with a 21-8 win over Johnson. The Scots recorded 15 hits and 17 RBIs.  Four of Covenant's 15 hits were home runs. Lewis Saunders, Josh Harvey, Brooks DuBose, and Joseph Ridenour all hit one out of the park.  Before the bats got hot for Covenant, the visiting Royals struck first, jutting out to 5-1 lead after their half of the third. A six run third and a 10 run fourth was all the Scots needed as they saw Johnson chip away but never challenge. Dubose went 3-for-4 and had six of the team's 17 RBIs. Saunders was 4-for-5 with two RBIs. Alex Gonzalez and Moore both hit doubles for the Scots. Adam Carver gets the win for the Scots. Austin Clark and Aaron Northcutt also saw time on the mound. 

Belhaven picked up their second win of the weekend in a 5-0 shutout win over the Centenary College Gents. The win came after Belhaven knocked off Edgewood College by a score of 22-5 in the first game of a four-team round robin tournament at Smith-Wills Stadium. The Blazers got another stellar start from right-hander Brett Sanchez in the win over Centenary. ers advantage before Sanchez closed the game out. Three Blazers finished with multiple hits in the win and Nick Lucido finished with a pair of runs scored. In the earlier game, the Green and Gold scored 22 runs for the first time since 2012 when the Blazers blanked Rust College 22-0 on February 29, 2012. Nick Lucido led the Blazers offensively going 4-for-4 from the plate with one home run and five RBI. Nathan Herron also posted four hits in the contest and added two RBI. Beau Louviere (1-0) got the start on the mound for the Blazers and went 5 scoreless innings and gave up only one hit. As a team, the Blazers scored 22 runs on 20 hits and stole six bases in the game.

In late action on Saturday. Birmingham-Southern rallied from a one-run deficit in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat No. 25 Hendrix, 5-2 at Striplin Field.  The Panthers went on a run scoring binge with a 17-7 win over Centre. The Colonels defeated Hendrix 12-5 in a game sandwiched between the BSC contests.  Berry split with Oglethope wining the opener, 12-2 then dropping the second 7-8.
