Rekping to provide stability in CSS program

More news about: St. Scholastica

DULUTH, Minn. – The College of St. Scholastica Director of Athletics and Recreation Jessica Cherry announced the hiring of Brooks Repking as the new head coach of the baseball program on Wednesday morning.

The CSS community is abuzz with excitement about the hiring of Brooks Repking and I am thrilled that he has chosen to be a Saint," Cherry said. "Coach Repking, a well respected coach in the baseball community, brings a much needed level of excellence and passion to our baseball tradition. He understands what it takes to recruit and develop student-athletes and be competitive in Division III. His enthusiasm, knowledge and energy made him the right choice for our family."

"I would first like to thank the committee and Athletic Director Jessica Cherry for this unbelievable opportunity," Repking said. "This is one of the most historic baseball programs in the country. I consider myself blessed to be a Saint and a part of the St. Scholastica athletic department. It feels great to be at an institution with amazing tradition across all of athletics, while also being in an elite city and conference. It is not by accident that there have been so many high-level coaches and teams on this campus over the years.

Repking will become the program's fifth head baseball coach, as former Head Baseball Coach Corey Kemp filled in for one year as an interim during the 2023 season.

"I will do everything in my power to uphold the standard of the people who came before me," Repking stated. "I will bring a tireless work ethic to Scholastica baseball. I know the standard that needs to be met on a daily basis in order to win a championship and I intend on bringing that north with me. I also plan on bringing in some of the top talents in the nation to the program to help us compete not only in the MIAC, but on a national level."

The Hamburg, Wisconsin native is no stranger to CSS baseball as he grew up attending St. Scholastica baseball camps and would eventually compete against the Saints in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference as a first baseman for Crown College during the 2018 and 2019 seasons.

"Throughout my life, Scholastica baseball has been one of the meccas of college baseball," said Repking. "As a first-time college coach, I tried to emulate everything that St. Scholastica did in order to try to reach the level they were at."

Repking would do just that as he led the Polars to their second consecutive trip to the UMAC Conference Championship game in his first year as Head Coach in 2023. The team was headlined by 2023 UMAC Player of the Year Howie Hatton, and All-Region Shortstop Seth Betts. It marked the second winning season in program history and second 20+ win season. It was also the third straight season with multiple Polars being named to an All-Region team.

Before being named head coach at Crown, Repking was Associate Head Coach with the Polars from 2019-2022. In Repking's tenure as Associate Head Coach, the Polars broke 55 school records, including the program's first ever UMAC Conference Championship. They all also finished with the best record in school history as well as the best conference finish in school history.

Repking served as the Head Hitting and Infield coach at Crown and led one of the most prolific offenses in the country. In 2022, he led the Polars to finish number three in the nation in Home Runs and Slugging Percentage. They also finished top 25 in the country in Batting Average, Doubles, HR/Per Game, Runs, Scoring, and Stolen Bases.

As a player, Repking started his career at Lakeland University before transferring to Crown as a junior. During his time with the Storm, he was a team captain and started every game in his two-year tenure, all at first base. In Repking's senior season, the Polars reached the UMAC Playoffs for the first time and haven't missed the postseason since. Repking's number (#21) is retired by the school for his leadership on and off the field.

He earned his bachelor's degree in Sports Management from Crown in 2019 and his Master's in Organizational Leadership from Crown in 2021.

Repking plans to reside in Duluth, with his official start date to begin on Monday, July 10.
