UW-Whitewater opened up their 2024 season with a 14-3 win over 19th-ranked Trinity (Texas). The Warhawks opened up the scoreboard quick, as Andy Thies hit the first Warhawk home run of the season. Only an inning later, Sam Paden hit another home run to left field, giving the Warhawks a 4-0 lead. The Tigers finally got themselves on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third, with a SAC fly to make it 4-1. The Warhawks answered back with another 3-run inning, extending their lead. Trinity was able to get another two runs on the board in the bottom of the fifth, but reliever Jack Hagen got the Warhawks out of the inning after coming into a bases-loaded, no-outs situation. The Warhawk offense didn't stop there, trying to get as many batting reps in their first game of the season. Sam Paden hit his second home run of the night in the Top of the seventh. Matt Scolan made the most of his two at bats in innings 8 and 9, picking up an RBI single in the 8th before scoring two more for the Warhawks in the 9th. A quick 3-and-out by Danny Hopper in the bottom of the ninth sealed the game for good, giving the Warhawks a 14-3 victory to start the season.
Down to its final three outs in its final Spring Break contest on Thursday morning, Eastern used a seven-run ninth inning to beat John Jay, 9-4, for the second time in as many days. Trailing 4-2, first-year third baseman Robert Del Buono ignited the rally with a game-tying two-run single to right field, and the Eagles tacked on five more runs after that to secure the win and a 2-2 record in South Carolina. Del Buono had another great day at the plate for Eastern, finishing 2-for-5 with a pair of RBIs, while Justin DiCesare, after a four-hit game in game one against John Jay, went 1-for-4 with three RBIs. Evan Barks, Brock Langlotz, Griffin Falco, Jason Hall, and Connor Schilling each finished with one hit apiece, while Hall and sophomore Thomas Kozlusky each drove in a pair of runs. Eastern's pitching staff was equally as brilliant on Thursday. Five pitchers - Kasey Baumgart, Joseph Juliano, Brennan Moloughney, Ethan Gwara, and Logan Culp - combined to give up just two earned runs and four walks while striking out seven, keeping the Eagles in the contest from start to finish. "They showed a lot of fight and confidence coming back in that type of game," Eastern Head Coach Scott Renauro said. "Pitching did what they needed to today and the whole trip this week. We were able to get a lot of pitchers in so we can come back up north and have an idea where guys can plug in. A lot of young guys showed really good stuff this week."
The comeback kids did it again as Hanover scored the game's final five runs to defeat Keystone in non-conference action on Thursday afternoon at The Ripken Experience, 5-4. Senior Marcus Goodpaster dominated on the bump for the Blue and Red as the starter threw eight complete innings with seven strikeouts and just two earned runs for the win. Junior Jaden Siemer pitched relief picking up his second save in as many as two days. Sophomore Robert Carroll and senior Alex Christie led the Panthers at the dish as they both recorded two RBI. Senior Tj Laplante turned in a 2-for-2 day including a run scored.
The Eastern Mennonite Diamond Royals wrapped up a five-game homestand at Royals Field on Thursday, entertaining the visiting Hornets of Vermont State University Lyndon. EMU got back to .500 on the year in dominant fashion, exterminating the Hornets by the final of 14-2. The Royals spread the wealth in the win, with 10 different batters getting at least one hit. On the mound, Jack Dooley and Damen Tapscott teamed up to limit the Hornets to just four hits on the afternoon. The Royals swiped bases all day, racking up an impressive 11 stolen bases.
Junior Joish Turner racked up four RBIs to help power the Pfeiffer Falcons over the Averett Cougars 12-3 on Tuesday in Misenheimer, N.C. The game was completed in Misenheimer after darkness halted the game at Averett on Feb. 27 in Danville, Va. Senior pitcher Thad Lewis (1-0) got the win for Pfeiffer (2-2). The right-hander went four innings, giving up three runs, one earned, on six hits, allowing three walks while striking out five. Sophomore Joe Javier started the game and threw two shutout innings without allowing a hit, walking none and striking out two. Turner went 1-for-2 with a home run and two walks in addition to his four RBIs for the Falcons. Sophomore Ryne Rodrigues hit a three-run home run for Pfeiffer.. Javier also chipped in forthe Falcons, putting together three hits in five trips to the plate while adding a triple.
Immaculata their third straight game this afternoon taking down Kean on the road by a score of 9-5. Freshman Alex LePage got the start on the mound for the Mighty Macs. LePage picked up the win providing six strong innings, surrendering four hits and one run while tallying six strikeouts. The Mighty Macs offense was firing early and often scoring in six of the nine innings. Kean would respond with two runs in the ninth, but it would not be enough as the Mighty Macs held on for a 9-5 victory over a talented Cougars squad.
Virginia Wesleyan (5-5) defeated William Peace 12-4. Samuel Kasprow led the team as he went 2-for-3 with a double and a home run, scored two runs, and led the team with four RBI, Thomas Crandall went 2-for-5 at the plate, with a double and a homer, scored two runs, and had two RBI, and Michael Burton Jr. went 2-for-4, scored one run, and had one RBI. Nick Beatty started on the mound and got the win as he pitched 5.0 innings, allowed two runs on three hits, and tallied nine strikeouts facing 20 batters.
Illinois College continued non-conference schedule with a visit to Fontbonne Thursday afternoon. The Blueboys extend their win streak to four games by defeating the Griffins by the final score of 10-8 at Shaw Park. With this victory, IC improves to 4-0 overall on the season. IC's Jacob Smith got the start on the mound for the Blueboys as he got in a early jam with Fontbonne runners on the corners. With two outs, Smith allowed the first Griffin run on a passed ball that gave Fontbonne the early 1-0 lead. In the top of the second, IC's Connor Hennemann got the inning started that ended with a 3-1 advantage. Although Fontbonne responded with a five-run second inning, highlighted by a grand slam by Blake Van Beers, IC wouldc chip away and take the lead for good in the eighth. With one out, Adam Passmore and Louie Bartletti both reached base with back-to-back singles to right. With two outs and runners on the corners, Nolan Decker broke for second when Fontbonne's catcher Eric Creech threw the ball to short center that allowed Passmore to score for the 9-8 lead. After a walk drawn by Barker, Hennemann added the final IC run of the game with an rbi single to right that scored Decker.
Alma returned to the fields in Florida on Thursday, February 29th to take on the Grove City College Wolverines. The Scots added another win on the trip as they beat the Wolverines 5-1. The Scots started their offense in the bottom of the first inning and a Luke Lindsay fly out to centerfield would score Kevin Tuttle putting Alma up 2-0. In the fifth inning, Alma added two more run off of an Avery Carnicom home run over the left field wall scoring Kyler Warren who reached earlier in the inning. Grove City was able to get their lone run if the game in the sixth after a double and a base hit following, scoring the base runner. Alma scored their fifth and final run of the day in the eighth inning.
Bridgewater (Va.) fueled a comeback in the ninth inning to win against Keystone 6-3. Keystone took the lead back in the bottom of the eighth. Isaac Sumpter led off the top of the ninth doubling to right field which was followed by up by a single by Nick Stavros to put a runner in scoring position. Christian Harris flied out to left field in the following at bat to plate Sumpter and knot the score at three apiece. Jeffery Snider delivered a huge double to take the lead back 4-3. Nick Dawson added more insurance singling to right field to bring Bauer home. The Eagles ended their rally with Tristan Gordon hitting a ball to deep center field to allow Snider to tag up and use his speed to give BC the advantage 6-3. Bridgewater went to its bullpen in the bottom of the ninth calling on Spencer Lloyd to close out the game. Lloyd ended the game in a huge way striking out the last batter with the bases loaded earning the save and giving the Eagles the 6-3 win.
Belhaven notched a solid victory against Oglethorpe on the opening day of the Berry Invitational 5-1. After solid innings from Will Swift, the Blazers got on the board in the third inning thanks to a two-run homer by Tristan Pearson. Will Swift continued to display consistency on the mound as the Meridian, Mississippi native threw five scoreless innings and five strikeouts on the day. The Blazers managed to pour more runs in the sixth as well as the seventh with Cole Fletcher stealing home. Fletcher would capitalize in the ninth with an RBI single to give the Blazers more insurance. The visitors managed to get a run in the bottom of the ninth, but Brett Sanchez would go on to close out the rest of the game and grant the Blazers an impressive victory.

Despite being down 1-0 through seven innings against the Washington College Shoremen on Thursday, Widener used six runs in the last two innings to win their first game of the year, 6-2. Kevin Bukowski led the team with two runs. Jack Balcer had a team-best two hits. Trae Sanders started five innings on the mound. In 21 batters faced, he struck out three with a 1.80 ERA. Aidan O'Brien struck out nine batters in 18 faced in four innings. In the top of the ninth, the Pride broke the game open with three consecutive scoring plays. Another score on a wild pitch was followed by a Brendan Raven two-RBI double, and Balcer cleaned everything up with a two-run home run. The Shoremen loaded the bases in bottom of the ninth and were able to get an RBI single. However, a fly-out ended the comeback attempt.
