Ithaca walks off to fifth straight win

Ithaca walked off Trinity (Conn.) with a 6-5 win at Lexington County Stadium to improve to 5-2 on the season and extend its winning streak to five straight games. Matt Curtis, who had a monster game yesterday against No. 21 Arcadia, delivered the game-winning RBI single to plate Colin Dunn in the bottom of the ninth inning. Dunn entered as a pinch runner after Connor Pedersen drew a lead-off walk and moved into scoring position on a ground out by Louis Fabbo. It was a back-and-forth game from the start as Trinity scored a run in the second to fifth innings and the Bombers scored once in the second and third. IC would then plate another run in the sixth and two more in the seventh to take a 5-4 lead, but the Bantams knotted things up at 5-5 in the ninth.

Kenyon had the perfect recipe for a big win over Gettysburg (2-8). The Owls fired up some immediate offense, mixed in a career game from Jackson Yelland, and sprinkled run support and strong defense throughout. All that led to Kenyon serving up a 9-0 shutout against the Bullets, which moved the Owls to 9-2 with a fifth straight win. Kenyon's offense jumped all over Gettysburg in the top of the first. Nate Rosen, Drew Robinson, Malcolm Gaynor, and Edwin Groff led off the inning with four straight hits taking a quick 4-0 lead. The Gettysburg pitcher and defense settled in from then on out, keeping Kenyon off the board until the fourth. Yelland and the Owls' defense were dialed in as well, however, and they made the Bullets fire blanks. Yelland, who came into the game with a 9.00 ERA and zero strikeouts in two appearances this season after a 22.50 ERA in two innings in 2023, struck out 10 batters and allowed just three hits over seven innings pitched. Drew Robinson had a fantastic day at the plate, going 4-for-4 and reaching safely all five times. The senior stole three bases and tallied two runs, two RBIs, a double, and a walk, boosting his batting average to .366.

UW-La Crosse opened its 2024 season with an 8-3 win over Bethel (Minn.) Monday afternoon at NE Regional Park. The Eagles would score a run in the fourth, fifth and sixth inning to take a 4-3 lead. In the eighth inning, the Eagles would score four insurance runs. Offensively, UWL finished with eight runs on 15 hits. Six UWL players finished with at least two hits including Nate Witte (3-for-4) and Tim Urlaub (3-for-4). Witte also walked and scored a run for the Eagles. Owen Anderson (1-0) picked up the win on the mound for the Eagles by allowing three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out six in 6.0 innings of work. Alex Redman (1) came on in relief to earn the save by pitching three scoreless innings and allowing just two hits while striking out one.

Benedictine will come home from Florida unbeaten after completing the journey with a 13-1 victory in a shortened contest. Benedictine scored four runs in the third and five in the fourth to take control early. Leading 9-1, the team plated four runs in the sixth to give other players a chance to appear on the journey. The contest saw 22 players take to the field. DeShawnte Carraway finished 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles, three runs scored and three RBIs. Chase Hanselman knocked home three. Eight players tallied hits. Five of the 10 hits in the contest went for extra bases. Andrew Kurcz, who started his trip with seven blank innings, earned the win with four shutout frames, allowing just one hit. Nathan Buehrer, Kash Koslowski and Brock Bevil all worked an inning.

After hitting a single with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning, Eddie Galvao went to second on a wild pitch, stole third, and scored on an overthrow to give Skidmore a 10-9 walk-off win over Wisconsin Lutheran College on Monday. The Thoroughbreds had leads of 5-4 and 9-7 before Warriors plated three in the fourth to take a brief lead and two in the seventh to tie it at nine. In the top of the ninth, Wisconsin Lutheran had the go-ahead run on third when Ethan Caiazza induced a ground out to preserve the tie. WLC also threatened in the 10th. Jaden Torrado threw out the potential lead run at the plate from right field on a Jake Sillan single. Eli Michaelis led off the frame with a double to the left-center field gap. Chase Siegel retired the next two hitters to set up the Skidmore walk off and snag the WLC reliever Will Tucholksi retired the first 11 batters he faced with four punchouts until Galvao's single in the 10th.

Albright (3-2) played in their third game in the past two days playing host to Lycoming (3-8) at Kelchner Field. The Lions and Warriors were locked up in a tight battle throughout with Albright coming out on top in the end winning 9-8. Jack Gilmer enjoyed a nice day at the plate going 2-3 for the Lions. The starting shortstop laced two singles for his two hits while coming around to score on three different occasions. Roman Berretta recorded the biggest hit of the day for the Lions. Berretta stepped to the plate with the bases loaded in the sixth inning and roped a double into left field that scored all three Lions on base. Berretta also reached base two more times being hit by a pitch both times.

Johns Hopkins hosted Cairn in the final tune-up before its spring break trip Monday afternoon, capitalizing on a number of Highlander errors to secure a comfortable, 12-1 win. The Blue Jays' arms were excellent in the 11-run win, combining to allow just three hits and one run while fanning six. Bearden Awadzi got his second collegiate win and first of the year, allowing one hit and one run in three innings of work. Three Hopkins players had multi-hit days, with Matthew Cooper, Jimmy Stevens and Lukas Geer all going 2-4 on the afternoon. Geer now leads the team in both batting average (.500) and RBIs (8) after bringing two more runners in. In one of their most complete games at the plate of the season, nine different Blue Jays registered a hit — including the first of the season for Jake Siani, Jackson Roloff and Nathan Lewis — with eight different Hopkins players adding an RBI.

Senior Tyler Reistetter racked up 10 strikeouts and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy took advantage of a five-run sixth to defeat North Central, 7-1, at the Snowbird Baseball Classic. USMMA improved to 2-4, while North Central dropped to 3-6. Reistetter (2-1) surrendered just two singles in 8.0 innings of one-run ball for the victory, while also finishing 2-for-5 with a run scored at the plate. Sophomore Ernest Darling went 1-for-1 with a pinch-hit, two-run double as part of the decisive sixth inning. Senior Brice Garner was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, while freshman Tommy Chiappetti finished 2-for-4 with an RBI.

In the first ever meeting between schools, Suffolk jumped out to a five-run advantage early and never looked back to defeat Simpson, 10-4, Monday morning at Lake Myrtle Park at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. Harry Painter picked up the win in his first start of the season. He put together a three-run, three-hit, five-walk, six-strikeout effort in 5.0 innings. John McDevitt compiled a one-run, two-hit, two-walk, one-punchout performance in 2.1 innings of relief. TJ Dimitriou tallied 1.2 innings of scoreless relief with one hit and one walk allowed and a pair of Ks. Alex Sorenti-Burns and Jack Mihalchik both went 2-for-4 at the plate. The former had one double, two runs, one RBI and one walk, while the latter notched three RBI, one run and one walk.

William Paterson (2-6) posted a season-high mark in hits and runs scored during a 14-2 home triumph over SUNY Cobleskill (2-8) in a non-conference game at Jeff Albies Field. Freshman Robert Nathan made his first collegiate start and earned the win after allowing just one run on five hits with eight strikeouts in six innings of action. Noah Cabassa finished with a three-hit game to go with two runs scored and an RBI. Jake Lutz went 2-for-5 with a triple and two runs scored.

No. 7 nationally-ranked Denison continued its run at the Snowbird Classic with a 5-1 win over Stevens at the Snowbird Classic. Eric Colaco led the Big Red with a 3-for-4 effort featuring two RBI's while Jake Welsch was 2-for-5 and Alex Vasquez was 1-for-2 with two walks. Jack Rollo (1-0) earned the win after tossing 5.1 innings allowing five hits, one run, two walks and two strikeouts to start the game on the mound. Denison improves to 8-2 with the run while Stevens falls to 6-4. The Ducks have now lost four straight after starting the year 6-0.

Keystone secured another victory in shut out fashion with a 9-0 win over University of Pitt.-Greensburg Monday afternoon. Robert Estrada, Andy Rivas, and Chase Boyle all had two base hits with one RBI. Nate Ewing also contributed with two base hits. Justin Mann recorded an RBI base hit while Nicholas Franza collected a two-RBI single. Brayan Villar picked up his first win of the season as he pitched five scoreless innings while allowing two hits with six strikeouts. Justice Ramirez, Julian Gonzalez, Aidan Pawlak, and Matthew McElligott pitched an inning in relief and combined for eight strikeouts.

Senior Tillman Butler went two for four with two RBIs and two runs scored, and junior Christian Chambers went one for two with two RBIs and two runs scored, as Hampden-Sydney split a non-conference doubleheader with Hamilton, losing the opener 9-1 and taking a victory in the nightcap 14-11, Monday afternoon on Yank Bernier Field at the Ty Cobb Ballpark – Wurdeman Stadium. H-SC jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in game two but lost the lead to Hamilton in the third. In the fifth HSC made it 13-9 in favor of the Tigers. In the sixth inning, freshman Brandon Shelhorse put an exclamation point on the game by blasting a solo home run to left field to give H-SC a 14-11 win. Sophomore Jackson Barnett started and pitched 2.2 innings for the Tigers, starting a parade of pitchers that reached six at the end of the game. Senior Jack Bourdon, the third pitcher of the day earned the win. he pitched 0.2 innings giving up no hits, and no runs, while striking out none, and giving up no walks.

A steady stream of runs lifted No. 21 Arcadia to a 9-1 win over Case Western Reserve University in non-conference play on Monday afternoon. Matt Donchez opened the scoring in the top of the first on a fielder's choice that scored Solomon Griffith. Case Western Reserve tied the score in the bottom of the first. Eli Savitt gave the Knights the lead back in the second when his bunt single was thrown away allowing Griffin Murphy to score before a Griffith ground out brought home Gabe Diaz. Anthony Bruno increased the lead to 4-1 in the fourth when he doubled home Griffith. Eric Shandler brought home Matthew Sot in the fifth on a sacrifice fly to make the score 5-1. Bruno, Diaz, Justin Massielo, and Shandler all racked up RBI's in the back half of the game to help Arcadia get the win.

Lesley picked up a pair of wins to open its Spring Break trip Monday against Albertus Magnus and FDU–Florham. The Lynx cruised to an 11-2 win over the Falcons in the opener before posting a 6-3 victory against the Devils to complete the Day 1 sweep. The Lynx put game one away with a six-run sixth highlighted by a three-run blast from junior outfielder Colby Jacobs, his first of the year, to bump the lead to 11-1. In game two, the squads traded runs in the seventh as the Devils got an RBI single by T Chippenda to pull within at pair at 5-3 before Jake Samela answered with an insurance run on an RBI single to right to bump the lead back to three at 6-3. The Lynx bullpen was strong in the win as Noah Terzo picked up two big outs in the seventh before Patrick Teasdale worked the final 2.0 innings with scoreless ball for the save, striking out four in his season-debut.

Scranton (5-2) notched a 10-3 victory over Haverford (5-2) to begin the day and the Royals split a pair of contests on Monday at the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers. Scranton dropped a 9-2 decision to Franklin & Marshall (2-8) in the team's second game of the day. The Royals took the lead with a five-run sixth inning and added three more runs in the eighth as part of the 10-3 victory. The Diplomats built an early lead with eight runs in the first inning and Scranton dropped a 9-2 decision in the contest.
