Scott Carden has announced he will step away as Head Coach of the Albion College baseball program to pursue an opportunity outside of baseball. Through 21 seasons at the helm, Carden amassed 339 wins as the head coach of the Britons, leaving as the all-time winningest baseball coach in Albion history.

"Coach Carden has undoubtedly left his mark on the Albion College baseball program and has spent the last 21 years investing into the lives of our baseball student-athletes.," said Jennifer Rushton, Director of Athletics. "I would like to thank Scott for all he has done for Briton baseball. The future of the program is bright due to Scott's hard work and leadership. I wish him all the best in the next stage of his career."

He mentored 54 All-MIAA selections and a handful of All-Region honorees, most recently including Kris Stojanovski. He led the 2004 squad to the MIAA Regular Season title, which was just inducted into the Albion Athletics Hall of Fame last fall. Of his 339 wins, 233 came against MIAA opponents, ranking him third all-time in league wins.

"I have been blessed to be the Head Baseball Coach at Albion for the past 20 years," said Carden. "I wish the program nothing but the best moving forward and know it is in good hands with Coach Rix at the helm."

Matt Rix, who has been Carden's assistant for the last 12 seasons, has been named Interim Head Coach through the 2025 season. Rix has been an integral part of the staff, working primarily with the pitchers during his tenure. Since 2019, Albion has seen at least one pitcher named All-MIAA under Rix's leadership.

"I want to thank Scott for having me on his staff for the last 12 years …I know we will see him catching a game from the Carden Corner," said Rix. "I'm proud of the teams we have coached and the work we did together. I will miss coaching with him. I am thankful for the opportunity given to me by Jen (Rushton) and Dr. Webster to step into the Interim Head Coach role. I'm thrilled to continue working with our Briton Baseball team as we move into the fall and beyond."

"I am thrilled that Coach Rix will take over the baseball program as Interim Head Coach," added Rushton. "In my short time at Albion, I have learned that Matt is passionate about Albion College, the baseball student-athletes, and has been a loyal assistant under Coach Carden. I look forward to working alongside Matt in his new role."

Rix will immediately begin serving in his new role in preparation for fall ball.
