FREDERICK, Md. – After nine seasons with Hood's baseball program, Head Coach Mike Impellittiere has announced his resignation.
Hood will now conduct a national search for their next head coach.
"Although my time at Hood has come to a close, working with each member of this team, past and present, has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career," said Impellittiere. "I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished together, and I am confident that this team will continue to achieve great things."
In his seven seasons at the helm, Impellittiere accumulated 129 wins and four MAC Commonwealth appearances including a Co-Championship in 2019. He coached 17 all-conference, six D3 Baseball all-region, and five ABCA Rawlings all-region athletes.
In his first season in 2018, he guided the Blazers to a 32-win season and the program's first trip to the MAC Commonwealth playoffs and its Championship Game.
Prior to taking over as head coach, Impellittiere spent two seasons as an assistant coach for the Blazers. During his two years on staff, he has worked with outfielders, catchers, and pitchers, while serving as the team's strength coordinator.
"Since 2016, Mike has contributed to the success of our baseball program at Hood," Director of Athletics Dr. Susan Kolb said. "I am grateful for his time, and I wish him the best of luck in his next endeavor."
The spring of 2024 spring saw 23 wins and the best conference win total since 2019. At the plate, the team showed program highs in slugging percentage, home runs, and sac flies. Hood's rotation included two arms in the conference's top 2 in ERA, top 4 in earned runs, and the staff led in shutouts.
Impellittiere said, "Thank you to the best alumni, my assistant coaches and my fellow colleagues who have supported me throughout my career at Hood. "
