Game 1
Vikings' Offense Explodes Late in Win
The Berry Vikings prevailed in a high scoring first game of a doubleheader against the Emory Eagles, winning 28-13.
Berry started the party early, jumping out to a 5-0 lead after the first inning with RBIs from Nick Brunswick, Andrew Pendleton, Chase Edmonds, and Caleb Spikes. The Eagles responded with a solo home run from Aidan Conley, but that was all their half of the second inning had in store.
The Vikings added two more runs in the bottom of the second on Riley Uhls's two run double to make the lead 7-1. Emory would waste no time responding, as Jack Halloran's grand slam in the top of the third cut the Vikings' lead to 7-5. Berry tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the third courtesy of hits from Brunswick and Pendleton, bringing the lead to 9-5.
The Eagles tied the game in the top of the fourth, with Jake Lawson's RBI double making the score 9-9. Berry did not wait to respond, as they took the lead in the bottom half of the fourth on Garrett Lang's RBI error, bringing the score to 10-9.
The back-and-forth affair continued into the fifth inning as Emory retook the lead, putting up four runs to make the score 13-10. Berry responded in the bottom of the fifth, by retaking the lead for good.
The Vikings tied the game at 13 on Uhls's three run home run early in the bottom of the fifth. Berry retook the lead a few plays later on Jameson Farley's RBI groundout, making the score 14-13. Game 2
Vikings Sweep Doubleheader Powered by Alex Knapp's Cycle
The Berry Vikings sweep the doubleheader and win the series against the Emory Eagles with a 17-8 victory.
Emory jumped out to a three run lead early, due to hits from Jack Halloran and Ryan Henry. The Vikings waited until the second inning to respond and take the lead in a big way.
Berry tied the game at three apiece on Jameson Farley's RBI fielder's choice and took the lead on Alex Knapp's two RBI triple to push the score to 5-3. The Vikings would tack on two more runs in the inning, courtesy of Andrew Pendleton and Riley Uhls.
Berry continued to add runs in the following innings following a balk and hits from Joey Garcia and Uhls. Going into the sixth, the Vikings were ahead 10-3 when the Eagles started to claw their way back into the game.
Emory loaded the bases to start the sixth and proceeded to score on a walk and single from Zach Hanson and Mitchell Smallwood, respectively, closing the gap to 10-5. Two batters later, Jake Lawson's bases clearing double tightened the game up at 10-8 and gave the Eagles all of the momentum. This did not last for long, as Aubrey Moraitakis entered the game and eliminated the threat by retiring the final two batters of the frame.
The Vikings responded in their half of the sixth by producing their second seven run inning of the game. The highlight of the inning was Knapp's towering three run home run into left field to complete the cycle and make the lead 15-8. Uhls's two run single capped the scoring and extended the lead to 17-8.
Cole Porter, winner of the first game in the doubleheader, finished this game by cleaning up a bases loaded scenario and allowing no runs to score.
Knapp, powered by his cycle, led the team with five RBIs and four hits as he went 4 for 5. Uhls also had a great game, going 2 for 4 with four RBIs. Garrett Lang and Jameson Farley had two RBIs apiece, and Garcia and Pendleton also each had an RBI.
