DeSales rolls to 10th win on light slate for Monday

Freshman Austin Kreyenhagen threw a three-hit shutout and Brayden Davis (pictured) and Dave Appolonia drove in two runs apiece as No. 13 Rowan defeated Dickinson, 12-0, in seven innings. It was the Profs' first game back after their trip to Florida as they improve to 12-2.

DeSales University rolled past Rosemont College in a 11-1 win on Monday afternoon at Weiland Park. DSU got on the board first in the second inning on an error by the Raven first baseman that resulted in junior John Rorick to come across and score. Sophomore Ty Akins added on for the Bulldogs in the third inning with a two-RBI single to right field to push the lead up to 3-0. DeSales broke this game open in the sixth inning scoring four more runs that was led by RBI singles from Rorick and first-year Eddie Cwiertniewicz to give DSU a 7-0 lead after six innings. DSU provided the final tally in the bottom of the seventh inning after scoring another four runs to win via 10-run mercy rule. First-year Joe Ficoturo got the win pitching two scoreless innings in a bullpen game. Cwiertniewicz finished 2-for-3 with four RBIs and one run scored, Akins went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and one run scored, and junior Owen Frye had a hit in his only plate appearance and tallied two RBIs. This marked the first ever meeting between the two programs.

Shenandoah University returned home following a conference sweep of Averett over the weekend for a non-conference match up with Marymount. The Hornets (16-6, 7-1) came from behind twice to secure a thrilling 8-7 walk-off victory over the Saints in the bottom of the ninth, extending their winning streak to four games. Jaime Padilla and Connor Houser led the offensive charge, each going 3-for-4 at the plate. Padilla recorded two RBIs, two runs scored, a sacrifice fly, and a double. Houser tallied three singles, including the game-winning hit, along with a run scored, a walk, and an RBI. Kyle Garrett added two RBIs, while Matthew Atchley and Christian Carver each drove in a run. On the mound, Nick Bell started for the Hornets, pitching three innings and allowing seven hits and three runs while striking out three. Dominic D'Ottavio took over for the next two innings, surrendering three hits and two runs with one strikeout. Brian Ferreira followed with two innings of one-hit ball, striking out one, while Ryan Seifert closed out the final two innings, allowing two hits and no runs to earn his first win of the season.

The Hanover Panthers (6-11 overall, 2-2 HCAC) made their home debut within the confines of K.T. Young Ballpark on Monday afternoon welcoming the Quakers of Earlham for Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action. Hanover dominated game one, winning 17-4 in seven innings. They continued to dominate, sweeping the Quakers with a 12-3 game-two win. Freshman Dylan Lloyd had an impressive outing for the Blue and Red, throwing six complete innings with 10 strikeouts on 33 batters faced. Sophomore Ashton Carie got the call to close, throwing one inning with three strikeouts. In game two, freshman Wyatt Colvin got the start for the Panthers throwing six complete innings with four strikeouts.

The Vikings opened up the week with a win over LaGrange at William R. Bowdoin field, 6-3. With Jackson Collett on the mound LaGrange got off to a good start with two hits that brought in a run in the top of the first before two were stranded on the bases and the Vikings headed to the plate. Berry was unsuccessful at the plate in the bottom of the first and LaGrange tacked on another run in the top of second to go up 2-0 early. The Vikings finally answered with a big second inning scoring four runs on four hits. It began with a single through the left side from Charles Pulaski and Caleb Spikes walking right after. Garrett Lang loaded the bases on a single to center field that was followed by a sacrifice fly from Hayden Gilbert to score the Vikings first run. At the top of the lineup, Alex Knapp's RBI single scored the second run and a two-run triple from Nick Brunswick closed out the second with Berry on top 4-2. A homerun from the Panther's brought the game within one run, but the Vikings scored two in the bottom of the third to have a three run lead the remainder of the game. Collett finished out the fourth inning and then Mason Snyder came in relief to capture the win in the top of the fifth. Cole Porter closed the sixth and seventh and Tyler Cassidy earned the save with his performance in the eighth and ninth.

No. 16 UW-La Crosse finished their spring break trip a perfect 7-0 and extended their win streak to seven games as they defeated Union College 7-0 on Monday morning. UWL took a 1-0 lead in their half of the first inning as Nate Witte led off with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. He then moved to third on Chris VandenHeuvel's single and scored on Anthony Vivian's single. With two outs in the second inning, Eli Roberts doubled and scored on Witte's single to make it 2-0. UWL would get two runs on three hits in the top of the third inning to take a 4-0 lead. Vivian led off the inning with a double while George Seaman walked. Emiliano Ramos and Mac Born each drove in a run with a single. With the score still 4-0 in the top of the seventh inning, VandenHeuvel hit a one out single and advanced to second on Vivian's single. Seaman then hit his third home run of the season to give UWL a 7-0 lead.

No. 24 Gustavus split its doubleheader Monday versus Crown College at the Gustie Baseball Field. The first game was a clear Gustie victory with a final score of 11-3. The second game proved to be more of a battle and the Gusties gave it their all in extra innings, but fell 5-4, moving to 13-3 overall on the season. Gustavus took control at the plate early and built a 10-1 lead through five. The Gusties managed to sneak in another run in the sixth with Oliver Leupold scoring on Joe Burn's triple. The Polars came back with two more runs in the bottom of the seventh, but it was not enough. In game two Gusties took a 4-3 lead into the ninth. Crown rallied, tying the game. The bottom of the ninth proved unsuccessful for the Gusties, and they moved into extra innings. Crown tallied another run in the 10th in a failed pickoff attempt and ended the game in the bottom half with a double play.

Pacific brought out the brooms and the bats. The Boxers had their most productive offensive game of the season on Monday to finish off a three-game series sweep at Pacific Lutheran. In a makeup game previously scheduled for Sunday and played on Monday, the Boxers took advantage of five Pacific Lutheran errors to win game three 11-4. Pacific had five extra-base hits in the Northwest Conference victory, which included three doubles and two triples. Trailing 3-2, the Boxers scored seven runs in the top of the fifth inning to take control of the game. Sophomore first baseman Benjamin Lewis was 4-for-6 with two doubles, three runs and an RBI. Freshman Nicholas Saelens earned the win on the mound, holding the Lutes to three runs over six innings. He allowed eight hits and recorded five strikeouts.
