Hagan hits for the cycle as Keystone sweeps

ASTON, Pa.- The Keystone College baseball team recorded a United East doubleheader sweep against Penn State Brandywine 16-0 and 14-7 Friday evening at the Maplezone Sports Institute.

Game One: Keystone 16, Penn State Brandywine 0 (7 inn.)

Darren Hagan (Aston, Pa./Garnet Valley) hit for the cycle as he went 4-for-5 with three RBI. He had a double in the third, a two-run home run in the fourth, infield single in the sixth, and an RBI triple in the seventh to complete the cycle.

Griffin Yastremski (Bath, N.Y./Haverling) tallied three hits which included a two-RBI single and an RBI double. Jacob Yager (Grahamsville, N.Y./Tri-Valley) and Andy Rivas (Bronx, N.Y./Academy for Language and Technology) each had two runs batted in.

Leam Powell (Phillipsport, N.Y./Chapel Field Christian) got the game one start and win as he tossed four innings and allowed only two hits with two strikeouts. Brandon Valles (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North), Aiden Kee (Wilmington, Del./Brandywine), and Nick Gravel (Sidney, N.Y./Sidney) tossed an inning in relief with the trio combining five strikeouts.

The Giants opened the game hot with a seven-run first inning. They tallied at least one run in almost every inning in route to the game one victory.

Game Two: Keystone 14, Penn State Brandywine 7

Like the first game, Keystone's offense got off to another solid start with four runs in the opening frame. Brandywine would add one run at the bottom of the first followed by three in the third to tie the game at four runs apiece.

Keystone responded with two runs in the top of the fourth, but the Nittany Lions scored three in the bottom half to take a 7-6 lead.

The Giants would be held scoreless the next two innings until they added three runs in the seventh to go up, 9-7. They would bust the game open with a five-run ninth inning to solidify the sweep.

Five players had three hits in game two as Yager led the way with four runs batted in. He had an RBI single and a three-run home run. Drew Sorrentino (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) picked up his second win of the season as he pitched five innings in relief and allowed one hit with seven punchouts.

Keystone (15-5, 5-1 United East) heads back to La Plume to welcome Rutgers-Camden to Christy Mathewson Field on Monday, Apr. 7 at 3:30 p.m.
