Fifth-year pitcher Terry Murray fired a complete game six-hitter with eight strikeouts as No. 5-seeded Rhode Island College shut out No. 2-seeded UMass Boston, 7-0, in game two of the 2025 Little East Baseball Championship, hosted by Keene State on Wednesday afternoon. No. 4 nationally ranked Endicott downed Western New England, 4-2, in Wednesday's Conference of New England Quarterfinal matchup from North Field. The game was a pitching duel between Charlie Hale and Matt Lauria for the majority of the game, as neither pitcher had allowed more than one earned run through 5.2 IP. With the Gulls up 1-0 in the bottom of the sixth, they tacked on three huge insurance runs. John Mulready drove in Joey Frammartino with a hard-hit RBI base-knock up the middle to give the Gulls a 2-0 lead. Then, a batter later, AJ Hamm (Shrewsbury, Mass.) picked up his third hit of the day (second RBI base hit) with a two-run shot over the left center field fence, putting the Gulls up 4-0. The Golden Bears picked up their first two runs of the day after an Endicott misplay around the infield, but Hale was able to bear down and escape any further damage, keeping it a 4-2 game. The visitors surmounted another rally in the top of the eighth, and Coach Haley called on Brady Stuart for the first time since March 22 at Nichols. The right-hander induced a 463 ground ball double play to the first batter he faced, stranding the bases loaded. Hartford traveled to Bryant University for a clash with the #6 seed Roger Williams in the first round of the Conference of New England playoff tournament. The first game took place at 12:00 PM and the Hartford Hawks came out on top, with a final score of 5-2. The Hawks would get on the scoresheet early, as graduate student Jake Santiago would single to drive home sophomore Alek Popovich in the first. The Hartford bats didn't slow down as junior Ryan Knight came home in the second inning off the bat of junior Josh Kaplan who advanced sophomore Tyler Shannon to third and would later score from a sophomore JJ Romatzick single. In the third, the Roger Williams University bats woke up as Noah Hester scored on a sacrifice fly from Sheehan. Later in the inning, Owen Hibbard scored on a single from Folan cutting into the Hartford lead 3-2. The score wouldn't stay where it was for too long, as Santiago went deep in the bottom of the fifth inning to extend the Hawks' lead to 4-2. In the bottom of the eighth inning Hartford would extend the lead once again when Knight would come across on a single from Shannon, to secure the Hawk victory, as the lead would be too much to overcome, and Hartford would come out on top 5-2. Later in the day it was a differnt refsult for Hartford. Senior John Steed dealed and Ben Jerome recorded four singles, as the No. 2 seeded Nichols College Baseball team earned an 11-3 win over Hartford, on Wednesday afternoon in the Conference of New England Quarterfinal. The Bison saw a five-run seventh inning, to secure the win.
Sixth-seeded Rutgers-Camden tied its season-high total with 23 hits and produced its third-highest total of runs as it defeated second-seeded Rowan, 19-7, here Wednesday in the winners' bracket final of the New Jersey Athletic Conference playoffs. The victory moves the Scarlet Raptors (28-15) into the NJAC championship round, while the Profs (31-9) drop into the losers' bracket final. Second-seeded Rowan brought a 13-game winning streak into Wednesday's game, which started after their 20-12 loss against Rutgers-Camden on April 14. Rutgers-Camden graduate starter Ethan Carpenter (7-2) worked out of a one-out, bases-loaded jam in the top of the first inning with a line out and a pop out to second base. After that, the Scarlet Raptor offense took over against Rowan senior starter Zach Coluccio, who suffered his first loss of the season to drop his record to 7-1. Rutgers-Camden scored in each of the first four innings, including five-run frames in the second and fourth innings and a four-run inning in the third. The second-inning explosion featured five hits, including a two-run home run from Murphy, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and four RBIs in the game. Brandon Petrick finished the day going 3-for-5 with a walk, two runs and five RBIs. Ryan Nutley went 3-for-4 with a walk, one run and one RBI. The walk was his team-leading 31st of the season, one shy of the program's single-season mark.Chris Smith, meanwhile, had a big game at the bottom of the lineup, going 3-for-5 with a walk. two runs and two RBIs. Carpenter worked 5.2 innings, allowing 11 hits and two walks. He was charged with six runs, only four earned. Coluccio worked 1.1 innings for Rowan, allowing seven hits, two walks and seven runs, six of them earned. He struck out two. Freshman left fielder Damon Suriani led Rowan's 14-hit offense, going 3-for-5. Third-seeded TCNJ was back on the road to take on top-seeded Kean in an NJAC Tournament elimination game Wednesday afternoon, grinding out a 9-1 win to knock off the seventh-ranked Cougars and advance to the next round. The Lions (25-16-1) were methodical in manufacturing the upset, scoring a run in all but two innings while Jackson Malouf put together another gem on the mound en route to the decisive win. While Malouf took care of business on the mound – the senior allowed just two hits through the first three innings – Andrew Fernandez stayed red hot at the plate, hitting solo home runs in both the second and fourth innings to triple TCNJ's lead to 3-0. The senior is in the midst of one of the hottest stretches of his career, hitting .667 with five home runs and 14 RBIs in his last five games. Kean (35-8) got as close as they would get to scoring in the bottom of the fourth inning after back-to-back singles put two on with no one out, but Malouf coolly retired three of the next four batters he would face to keep the Cougars off the board. Instead it was the Lions getting RBIs from Marcario and Marano to make it a 5-0 game before a three-run seventh inning in response to the Cougars spoiling the shutout put the game out of reach.
The 2025 Presidents' Athletic Conference Tournament started Wednesday with three games, which began with a win by top-seeded Washington & Jefferson College in the opening game. The Presidents' road to a sixth straight PAC crown began with a 7-1 victory over Thiel behind a stellar pitching effort from Dante DiMatteo and an offense that posted 10 hits. DiMatteo posted seven shutout innings with seven strikeouts and one walk, as he improved his record to 9-0 this season. A trio of Presidents had two-hits days at the plate, led by Knox Meier, who had a single, double and three runs scored in the win. Also collecting a pair of hits were Feldman to match his two RBIs and Jacob LaDuca, who also scored a run to go with his two singles. A three-run first inning gave Grove City the early lead and they continued adding on, posting a 10-3 victory over Saint Vincent in Game B. The early run support was plenty for Grove City starting pitcher Dash Lanzilotta. He recorded seven strong innings in his first PAC Tournament start and he worked through four hit batters to give up just one run on four hits with five strikeouts. With the sticks, Josh Minnich sparked the 14-hit attack by going 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles, three RBIs and a run scored. Luke Vittone also collected three hits and drove in a pair. Highlighting the Saint Vincent efforts was LJ Evans, who went 4-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Third-seed Allegheny opened up play at the 2025 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship tournament against fourth-seed Westminster Wednesday, defeating the Titans 4-1. Matt Jennings earned the win. He went 7.0 innings giving up seven hits and no earned runs while striking out five. At the plate, he had a pair of hits and a run scored. Harrison Ashley earned his first save of the season, allowing just one hit in two innings. Tyson Bryant-Dawson recorded his 197th career hit in the first inning, moving him into third all-time on the Gator career list.
Redlands (27-14) eliminated California Lutheran 5-3 on Wednesday afternoon in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament First Round. In the win-or-go-home game, the Bulldogs put all the pressure on the Kingsmen as they scored three times in the opening inning. Brett Edwards came on in the ninth and worked around a two-out single to secure his eighth save of the season, the second most in program history. The record is held by Derek Johnson who had 11 in 2009. Nathan Buchan got his 10th win, tying him for seventh most in program history, as he threw 5.1 innings with seven hits, three runs, two walks, a hit batter, and three strikeouts. Gavin Duenez finished with 2.2 scoreless innings. At the plate Luke De Vries and Kaiya Saito had four of their nine hits. Jake Burgess was the lone other player to reach base multiple times as he had a single and a walk. The win advances Redlands to the full tournament which is double elimination. Sitting just above the cut line for an at-large playoff bid, every win the Bulldogs can get will improve their chances of a playoff berth if they do not win the SCIAC tournament.
Kalamazoo defeated Adrian 5-4 in the opening game of the MIAA Tournament on Thursday. Fourth-seeded Kalamazoo took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth on a single by Cooper Mills. Top-seeded Adrian responded with two runs in the bottom half. The Bulldogs went ahead with a run in the fifth. The Hornets scored twice in the sixth before going up 5-3 in the top of the seventh. Adrian made it 5-4 with a run in the bottom half. The Hornet bullpen allowed just one base runner in the final two innings. Adrian outhit Kalamazoo 11-10. Cooper Mills and Ryar Rinehart each had two hits. Mills stole a base and drove in two runs. Daniel Beccari and Alex Fenkell also drove in a run. Logan Lockhart went 6.1 innings on the mound to earn the win. Owen Schihl and Robert Ahlgren combined for 1.2 innings in relief. Jacob Davis pitched a scoreless ninth for the save. Kalamazoo will play Alma on Thursday. The Scots were 2-0 winners in their game with Calvin. Alma got into a defensive battle with the Knights where runs were hard to come by, but the Scots were able to drive in two behind their ace's lights out performance. Tyler Johnson took full control of the game, setting an MIAA Tournament record along with tying the Alma College single game strikeout record, fanning an impressive 19 Knights batters in nine innings in the mound. Johnson only let up two hits in the complete game, along with only walking one batter, which came in the eighth inning.
Behind a shutout effort from pitchers Mason Estrada and Brian Rapanan third-seeded MIT earned a dominant 11-0 win over sixth-seeded Babson on the opening day of the 2025 NEWMAC Baseball Championship Tournament on Wednesday afternoon at Sol Gittleman Park at Tufts University. Estrada and Rapanan combined to limit Babson to six hits, as the Engineers pounded out 14 hits in the 11-0 victory. With the victory, MIT advances to play second-seeded Coast Guard tomorrow at 3:30 PM in New London, Conn. The victory was MIT's first NEWMAC postseason win since the 2023 season when MIT went 2-2 in the tournament. Teddy Schoenfeld finished the day 2-for-4 with a pair of walks and a pair of RBIs. He is now two hits from tying the MIT program record for career hits (227). Mason Estrada is now 6-0 on the year. Brian Rapanan earned his third save of the season, pitching 3.1 innings and striking out two.
Led by strong performances from four newly named All-Skyline Conference First Team selections, third-seeded Farmingdale State defeated sixth-seeded Manhattanville, 5-1, on Wednesday night in the first round of the 2025 Skyline Conference Championship. Four All-Skyline First Team honorees played a large hand in the victory over the Valiants (20-20), as junior outfielder Richie Heyder and senior first baseman Jordan Lambert each went 2-for-4 with a triple on the night. Junior right-hander Derek Watts moved to 6-1 on the season, as he tossed five innings of one-run, five-hit ball to go with two strikeouts in his 73-pitch start (50 strikes). Fellow junior first-teamer, lefty Michael Camardi, was first out of the pen and fired two innings of scoreless relief, before one inning apiece by sophomore Dennis Kelly and senior closer Tyler DiRocco advanced the Rams to the double-elimination bracket of the championship. Mount St. Mary's was a 9-1 winning over SUNY-Maritime and will play top seeded Merchant marine on Friday. Mount Saint Mary College was playing in its first Skyline Playoff game under Head Coach Trevor Purcell and this roster. Liam Horan got the nod on the bump for the Mount, as he looked to continue on with his career-best season. Leading 6-1, freshman phenom Christian Parisa hit yet another 2 RBI single to add to the Knights lead in the bottom of the 6th. Horan continued to deal, not allowing Maritime to score any more runs. In his first career playoff game, Horan would go the distance, allowing only 1 earned run, with 6 strikeouts, 6 hits allowed, while throwing a whopping 133 pitches, not bad for a one-pitch pony. Chris Calvario opened up the bottom half of the 8th with a single, and Parisa recorded his 5th RBI of the day to score Calvario.
Behind a complete game shutout from right-hander David Muirhead, Marymount won game one of the Atlantic East Tournament on Wednesday afternoon, 4-0. The Saints will move into the winner's bracket as they will host the rest of the Tournament at Kevin Anderson Field in Winchester. Ryan Cuadros got the Saints on the board in the first inning with an RBI double, scoring Jack McCarthy who singled earlier in the frame. The Saints extended their lead with Andrew Schaeb scoring to put Marymount up 2-0. Bobby Leitzel shot the lead to three in the bottom of the eighth with an RBI single, followed by a walked-in run to take a four-run lead into the ninth. Starter Muirhead finished what he started, going the distance without allowing a run with eight total punchouts. Leitzel, Schaeb, McCarthy, and Cuadros each had a pair of hits in the Tournament win. Kevin Knoess, Jonathan McMath, Daniel Fernandez, and Jordan Dickson each added hits. McCarthy and Cuadros both had a double. In other AEC action, Neumann advanced with a 7-6 win against Centenary. Thomas Carroll was 3 for 6 with a home run, a run batted in, and two runs scored. Andrew Brown and Brandon Colon were also 3 for 6. Brown had two RBI while Colon had a double, an RBI, and a run scored. Jack Valentine went a solid five innings, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks, striking out one. Chris Balshuweit earned the win in relief as he went 1.2 innings, giving up a hit and a walk, fanning one. His record is now 3-0.
Millikin defeated Wheaton (Ill.) 5-2 on May 7 to move on to the next round of the 2025 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Tournament being played at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Illinois. The Big Blue got a stellar pitching performance from CCIW First-Year Student-Athlete of the Year Caleb Akins who threw eight innings allowing five hits and two runs while striking out seven. Freshman Nolan Reiman pitched a scoreless ninth allowing one hit for his sixth save of the season. Carthage survived a late scare to emerge on Wednesday with a 6-2 win over North Park. Max Cairo’s first-inning home run set the tone for the Firebirds in their 6-2 win. The Carthage designated hitter reached safely five times Wednesday – a home run, a single and three walks. Collin Callahan and Drew Knecht also contributed two hits apiece for the Firebirds. Starting pitcher Bryce Schaum threw 7.0 innings, striking out eight and allowing a pair of unearned runs to seize his seventh win of 2025. After Cairo’s solo shot gave Carthage 1-0 lead in the first inning, PJ Moser hit a two-run double and Knecht tacked on an RBI single in the third inning. Callahan ripped another run-scoring hit in the fourth and the Carthage lead was 5-0. A bases-loaded walk two innings after that extended Carthage’s lead to 6-0. North Park threatened in each of the final two innings. An infield single from Vinnie Marvucic and an RBI groundout from Rylan Li made the score 6-2 in the eighth. The Vikings ultimately moved the tying run into the on-deck circle in the ninth, but Carthage reliever Jake Hartman ended the game on a comebacker to the mound. North Park had 10 hits Wednesday, including a 3-for-4 game from Marvucic.
Marian (21-19, 14-10 NACC) recorded just two hits but defeated Concordia Wisconsin 2-0 to advance to the double-elimination portion of the NACC Tournament. Offense was at a premium for both sides as the two sides recorded just nine hits in a game that lasted only 1:49. Marian opened the scoring in the third after opening the frame with a walk and single. After a sacrifice bunt from graduate student Robbie Knorr, senior James Bornick hit a sacrifice fly to right field to put Marian ahead 1-0. The Falcons threatened in the fourth inning putting runners on first and second with one out, but Marian was able to utilize a double play to end the inning. From the bottom of the fourth to the top of the eighth each team only put one runner on base. The in the bottom of the eighth, Marian took advantage of a pair of wild pitches that allowed Knorr to drive in senior Logan Rademan with a sacrifice fly. The Falcons brought the tying run to the plate in the top of the ninth but Marian was able to finish of its first shutout of the season. Marian is now 50-35 all-time against CUW having won four of the last five meetings. This is the first postseason win for Marian since the 2021 season. Edgewood was a 9-8 winner over Rockford. Edgewood (20-20) rallied late to force extras, before a Ryan Ambrosy walk-off single clinched a 9-8 (12 inning) victory against the Regents (24-17). After Rockford expanded the lead to 8-3 with an RBI single to left, Edgewood kicked off their rally in the seventh. Jacob Carney singled in two runs, before a Brevin Brisack double to left center plated a pair to trim the lead down to one. Kris Hahn silenced the Regents offense late in the game, while a Terry Tolliver Jr. single to center field would tie things off and send things into extras. Hahn and Zach Fabis locked into a pitcher's duel, but Rockford blinked first in the 12th as Ambrosy singled in a run to survive and advance.
Hilbert opened play in the AMCC Postseason Double Elimination Tournament this afternoon against the Mount Aloysius College Mounties at Sargent's Stadium. With a 9-8 walk-off victory over the Mounties, the Hawks advance to the winner's bracket and will take on Penn State Behrend, the tournament's top seed, tomorrow at 1 pm. Hilbert stormed out to an early 3-0 lead after the second inning and looked to cruise to a win after extending the advantage to seven runs after the fourth, but Mount Aloysius used runs in the final four innings, including a pair in the top of the ninth with two outs, to knot the score at eight all and force an extra frame. Following a quick 1-2-3 top half of the tenth from Tyler Noel, Garrett Brink played the role of hero as the freshman's pinch-hit RBI single in the home half of the inning scored Woodley Fisher to give the Hawks the 9-8 postseason victory. In a game between Pitt schools, Bradford came out ahead of Greensburg 15-4. Pitt-Bradford took an early lead and then stayed in front with a strong start by ace Shawn Mannering. They finally added to their early advantage in the 7th, sending 16 batters to the plate to score 11 runs and put the game out of reach.
Carleton and Martin Luther concluded their 2025 campaigns with a doubleheader split at Martin Luther. Carleton won game one 13-6 but was beaten in the second game, 11-2. The two squads exchanged zeroes in the first inning, but then the scoring began in earnest. The Knights knocked 14 hits as a squad. Asher Stolberg reached in four of five plate appearances, going 2-for-2 with two walks and a sac fly. Nathan Barnhart went 4-for-4 with two doubles, three runs, and two RBIs. Ananth Iyer was also 2-for-4 with two runs, and three RBI while Ryan Chang went 2-for-5 with two runs. The hosts began the scoring two runs in the bottom of the first. Carleton responded in the top of the second, as a two-out dropped third strike kept the inning alive for Carlo Lissuzzo to drop a perfect bunt down the line for a hit. Zacks followed with a double that brought knotted the game at 2-2. The tide turned in favor Martin Luther as the home team used a series of free passes from Carleton to score one in the third, three in the fourth, and five in the fifth. Martin Luther reliever Aiden Berg threw 5.0 scoreless innings to finish the game.
