Cal Lutheran 14, Simpson 5 - F/7

With an eager crowd ready to welcome the new season at Ullman Stadium, the Kingsmen wasted no time in bringing the partisan crowd to their feet as Cal Lutheran score three runs in the bottom of the first to take an early 3-0 lead.

Simpson would battle back over the next two innings, scoring one run in the second and another three in the very next frame to take a brief lead into the bottom of the third.

It was then when Cal Lutheran's bats caught fire as they would score 11 runs throughout the next three innings - four in the third, one in the fourth, and another six in the bottom of the fifth to secure their inaugural win of the 2011 campaign by a final score of 14-5.

Kingsman starter Spencer Trygg ended up throwing in five of the seven innings played to earn the victory as teammate Peter Ciaramitaro threw two inning of no-hit ball to close out the first game of the day's doubleheader.

Kingsman left fielder K.C. Judge and third baseman Nick Boggan both went deep against the Red Hawks as the pair was responsible for five of their team's 14 runs on the afternoon. Simpson 8, Cal Lutheran 4 - F

After giving up 14 runs to Cal Lutheran earlier in the day, it was Simpson that took an early lead as they hung five runs on the scoreboard in their half of the third, forcing the Kingsmen to turn to their bullpen a little earlier than planned.

Simpson would add another two runs in the fourth inning before the Kingsman offense kicked in during the bottom of the fifth as they began their comeback with a three-run effort to decrease Simpson's lead to a more manageable four run margin.

Both teams would add another run to their totals; Simpson increased their lead by one the very next inning, Cal Lutheran would touch home plate once in the eighth. But that early five run deficit that the Kingsman faced would turn out to be the deciding factor of the game as the Red Hawks were able to salvage a split of the games played during their time in Thousand Oaks.

As was the case on two occasions in the previous game, Boggan hit another home run in the second game as well, reaching base in all three of his appearances at the plate for Cal Lutheran (1-1) will not play an official contest again until playing four straight games against Northwest Conference opponents over as many consecutive games at the Arizona Desert Classic starting on Thursday, Feb. 10.
