DEMOREST, Ga. - The baseball season is officially underway as the Bulldogs saw Millsaps College score twice in the seventh to break a 3-3 tie and go on for a 5-3 win on a neutral Loudermilk Field on the campus of Piedmont College. The loss spoiled a strong outing by senior Ryan Domschot who went 6.1 innings and struck out 12 without allowing a walk. Domschot did yield seven hits and five runs, but just three were earned.
Senior David Partyka took the loss in relief despite going just two-thirds of an inning. He allowed a hit in two batters faced. Junior Sean Hartman went to the mound in the eighth and allowed one hit and one walk.
Adrian and Millsaps each scored in the first inning as the Bulldogs scored an unearned run on two errors by the Majors. Drew Leonard hit a solo shot against Domschot to lead off the bottom of the first.
The Bulldogs took a 2-1 lead in the third as sophomore Cody Meyer led off with a triple and scored on sophomore Andrew DeLuca's RBI single. AC got runners on second and third with one out but could not bring them home. Millsaps regained the lead 3-2 in the fourth as Drew Respess hit a two-RBI double with one out. The Majors put runners on second and third but Domschot struck out two guys to end the inning.
Adrian tied things up 3-3 in the fifth as senior Brian Bilius led off by reaching on catcher's interference. Senior Jason Greer was hit by a pitch with one out moving Bilius to second. Senior catcher Joe Dubina delivered an RBI single with two outs plating Bilius from second.
Adrian (0-1) gifted Millsaps (8-2) a pair of runs in the seventh with three errors in the frame. Will Hawkins had the game-winning hit with a two-run single with one out against Partyka. The Bulldogs put a runner on first in the eighth and put the tying runs on first and second in the ninth but could not collect the big hit.
The Bulldogs managed just three hits against Aaron Williams and Josh Conlee for the Majors. Millsaps finished with nine hits and both teams made four errors in the game. Meyer reached base three times with two walks and also had four infield assists. DeLuca stole a base and went 1-for-4 with a run. Millsaps' pitchers struck out six Bulldogs and allowed three walks.
