MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – In their final game of the 2011 Ripken Experience, the Gators (3-1), endured two rain delays that totaled an hour, and were only able to get eight innings played as they lost their first game of the season to Catholic University, 4-1, on Sunday afternoon.
Following the second rain delay that lasted 45 minutes, sophomore Frank Brank came on in relief and was dominant out of the pen, tossing five complete shutout innings, and giving up just one hit.
After scoring 20 runs over two games yesterday, the Gators were unable to keep the bats rolling with six hits as a team against Catholic. Senior Aaron Lynch had a pair of hits in four at-bats, and rookie Kyle Davis had the lone RBI with a single in the third inning that scored sophomore Frank Triozzi.
The Gators will look to rebound against Washington & Jefferson on Saturday, March 12th with a doubleheader at W&J that is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. first pitch.
