FORT MYERS, Fla. – Defiance College allowed six runs in the seventh and eighth innings of Thursday's contest against Baruch and fell by a 7-0 score. The Jackets outhit BC by a 9-5 margin in their fourth game of the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Florida.
Defiance got a strong start from Jake Taylor on the hill, as the sophomore held the Bearcats to a single tally through six frames and retired the first two batters in the seventh before running into trouble. Baruch loaded the bases with two outs to end Taylor's outing and then cracked a three-run double to open up a 4-0 cushion.
The Bearcats (3-0) would tack on three more in the eighth against the Yellow Jacket bullpen to break the game open and held on for the 7-0 victory.
Taylor held the Baruch offense to just four hits and four runs in 6.2 innings of work and picked up five strikeouts in the loss. Dan Samuels and David Riley each had two hits for DC.
Defiance (0-4) will look to break through against an unbeaten Haverford (5-0) squad on Friday. DC and the Fords will hooks up for a pair of seven inning affairs, beginning at 9:00 am.
