No. 14 Saints Dominate the Seahawks

FT. PIERCE, Fla. – The 14th-ranked St. Scholastica baseball team had no trouble with Salve Regina University (R.I.) on Wednesday, shutting out the Seahawks 12-0.

The Saints (7-1) plated at least one run in each of the first four innings. Kyle Moody had a RBI-double in the first inning and Scott Greening scored on a passed ball in the second.

CSS would get six runs across in the third. It was Moody again who had his second RBI-double to score Joe Link. Moody then scored on a Brandon Peterson single to make it 4-0. Andy Schwantes picked up his first RBIs as a Saints, driving in Peterson and Greening. Later in the inning, David Vogelgesang had the third RBI-double in the inning, scoring two runs to make it 8-0.

In the fourth, a Seahawk-error kept the inning going as Brandon Peterson scored on an error and Chad Peterson drove in a run to extend the margin to 10-0.

Griffin Bell had a RBI-single in the bottom of the sixth and Brandon Porten drove in a run in the eighth to make the final score 12-0.

 Kyle Jensen allowed a hit to the first batter of the game and then did give up a hit through six innings of work. Jensen struck out five and faced one batter over the minimum in six innings to earn the win. Brian Houdek picked up the save by going the final three innings and striking out two.  

Four Saints had a pair of hits and three Saints had a pair of RBIs in the victory. Salve Regina falls to 3-5 with the loss.

The Saints will face Gettysburg College (Pa.) tomorrow for one, nine-inning game. It is scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m. local time.
