Rensselaer Drops Stevens, 25-7

AUBURNDALE, Fla. - Sophomore Tanner Boucher recorded a team-best five of the club's 30 base-hits as the Rensselaer baseball team defeated Stevens Institute, 25-7, this afternoon. With the win, the Engineers improve to 4-3 overall, while the Ducks fall to 1-6.

RPI bounced back from its loss yesterday, scoring early and often as Boucher (Keene, NY/Keene) led the way, going 5 for 6 with a run scored and two runs batted in. Sophomore Jonny Rio (Maplewood, NJ/Columbia) went 4 for 6 with five runs scored, a triple, and three RBI.

Also producing offensively for Rensselaer was junior Art Levenson (San Diego, CA/University City), who went 4 for 6 with two runs and two and an RBI, while junior Kyle LaVigne (Ashland, MA/Ashland) went 3 for 7 with five runs scored, a homerun and three stolen bases.

Alex Sardo (2-0) earned the win on the mound, going 5.2 innings and giving up four earned runs, while striking out four.

Freshman Andrew Edwards (Littleton, CO/Chatfield) notched his first two collegiate hits in the ninth inning knocking in a pair, while Al Mersman (Newark, DE/Salesianum) registered his first career hit, lashing a run-scoring double.

The Engineers, who fell eight hits shy of a school record (38), are back on the diamond against UMASS Dartmouth, tomorrow morning (11am).
