WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Sophomore James Bardenett threw a complete-game shutout to lead the SUNY Brockport baseball team to a 10-0 victory of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), this afternoon at Chain of Lakes Stadium. With the win, the Eagles improve 8-2 on the season, while the Engineers fall to 3-3.

Bardenett (Syracuse, NY/Henniger) surrendered just three hits, while striking out 10 and did not issue a walk.

Senior first baseman Max Zimmerman (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville North) put Brockport on the scoreboard in the first inning, hitting a two-run homer after sophomore third baseman Mike Weakley (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) had reached on an error. Senior Mike Goldstein (Slingerlands, NY/Guilderland) gave the Eagles a 4-0 lead, when he came through with a bases-loaded, two-run double with outs in the top of the fourth.

Brockport took a 5-0 lead an inning later, on an RBI-single off the bat of junior Corey Booth (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley), plating Zimmerman, who had doubled two batters earlier. The Eagles tacked on another run the eighth and four more in the ninth to bring the contest to its final score.

RPI starting pitcher Jason Griffith (Lititz, PA/Warwick) allowed five runs on eight hits over 4.2 innings. He struck out six, while walking just one. Junior third baseman Cody Vincent (Catskill, NY/John A. Coleman) went 1 for 2 at the dish, while Tanner Bouche (Keene, NH/NKeene) finished 1 for 3.

Weakley wrapped out four hits for the Eagles, while driving in two. Goldstein went 2 for 4 with a run scored and two RBI.

The Engineers return to action tomorrow afternoon, when they take on Stevens (4:30pm).
