Westminster (Pa.) Finishes Florida Trip 10-0 After Beating Centenary Twice

FORT PIERCE, Fla. - The Westminster College baseball team finished its trip to Fort Pierce, Fla., with a perfect 10-0 record Friday as the Titans defeated Centenary (N.J.) twice by scores of 8-1 and 8-4. Centenary is now 2-8 on the season.

Junior shortstop Steve Perrotta batted a combined 5-for-8 with four RBI in the doubleheader to lead the Titans. Perrotta went 3-for-4 including two RBI in the first game before going 2-for-4 with two RBI in the second game. His two-run double in the second game broke a 3-3 tie in the fourth inning and the Titans never trailed for the remainder of the game.

Westminster's bats collected 13 hits in each game. Four Titans posted three-hit games. In addition to Perrotta, sophomore Kyle Allen went 3-for-4 with a double in game one.

Freshman Nick Reinthaler and sophomore Chris Ross went 3-for-3 and 3-for-4, respectively, in the second game. Two of Reinthaler's three hits were run-scoring doubles as he finished with three RBI. Reinthaler hit a two-run double in the first inning to give Westminster a 2-0 lead.

Westminster once again benefitted from solid pitching performances. Junior Patrick Mulligan went the distance in game one, by going seven innings with seven strikeouts while surrendering one run on six hits and four walks.

Junior Justin Prejsnar pitched into the sixth inning of the second game as he finished with five innings, seven hits, four runs, four strikeouts, five walks and two hit batsmen.

Westminster, off to its best start since the 1995 team went 12-0, is scheduled to play Hiram in Struthers, Ohio, March 23 at 3 p.m.
