New Paltz Baseball Sweeps Gettysburg by Scores of 4-0 and 6-4

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The State University of New York at New Paltz baseball team (6-4) kicked off play at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic on Friday afternoon and swept Gettysburg College (6-3) by scores of 4-0 and 6-4 in a doubleheader. Both of these non-conference games were seven innings in duration.

In game one, sophomore Andrew Grann (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) threw a complete game and earned the win, striking out six batters en route to the team's second shutout victory of the season. Senior Chris Paulicelli (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored to lead the Hawk attack, while juniors Matt Prescia (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot) and Matt Carr (Westbury, N.Y./Long Island Lutheran) each went 2-for-4.

The nightcap featured a monster performance from senior Jake Cameron (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side), who boasted a pair of two-run home runs. For the game, Cameron batted 3-for-3 with four RBI and a run scored. On the mound, sophomore James McKenna (Bohemia, N.Y./Connetquot) got the start and was pulled after the score was tied through four innings of play. Sophomore Anthony Repetto (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) notched the victory, tossing 2 1/3 innings in relief, while sophomore Chris Pyz (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) took over for the final two-thirds of an inning to earn the save. With runners on base and with one out in the seventh, senior Paul Merola (Cornwall-on-Hudson, N.Y./Cornwall) corralled a line drive to record the second out, and a groundout to third ended the game.

The Hawks continue play at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic tomorrow, as two contests are on tap. New Paltz squares off with St. Lawrence University at 9 a.m. before facing Knox College at noon.
