Lynx Complete Sweep of Oglethorpe

The Rhodes baseball team completed the three game sweep of visiting Oglethorpe University this afternoon at Stauffer Field. Rhodes scored four in the bottom of the eighth to take a 5-4 lead, before Oglethorpe tied the game at 5 in the top of the ninth. Freshman Andrew Wallis drove home the game winner with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. Senior RHP Brian Lainoff collected his first victory of the season, as the Lynx improve to 19-12 on the year and 5-4 in SCAC play.

Junior RHP Matt Burnick got the start on the mound this afternoon and worked the first 5.1 innings, allowing eight hits, three earned runs, walked one, and struck out four. Junior RHP Stuart Voges relieved Burnick with one out in the top of the sixth. Voges would work the next 1.2 innings, allowing one hit, one earned run, and walked one. Senior RHP Brian Lainoff threw the final two frames for the Lynx allowing three hits, an earned run, walked one, and struck out two.

The Lynx offense was led by junior SS Lynden Pindling who was 3-4 on the day with a walk and stole a base. Sophomore 3B Strother White was 2-5 with a run scored. Junior LF Channing Arndt was 1-2 with two runs scored, drove in a run, and walked twice. Freshman Andrew Wallis delievered the biggest hit of the day, a walk off pinch hit single to right field.

Rhodes will return to action this coming Tuesday as they travel to Conway, AR to take on Hendrix College, before heading to Jackson, MS for a conference series with Millsaps College.
