Lakeland, FL --- WPI baseball lost both games against Colby-Sawyer on Saturday at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational, losing 6-4 and 2-0.  The Engineers wrap up their Spring break schedule at 4-6, while the Chargers open their season at 2-0. 

In game one, the Crimson and Gray found themselves down 5-0 before a late rally. In the top of the sixth, junior David Trujillo (Sutton, MA) hit an RBI tripled down the right field line to score freshman D.J. Ouellette (Watertown, CT). The very next at-bat, Trujillo scored on an error, and WPI was in business.

Down 6-2 with three outs left in the top of the seventh, the Engineers loaded the bases and freshmanAlex Venditti (Newton, MA) doubled to right, driving in freshman Anthony Capuano (Stoneham, MA) and sophomore Steve Petry (Worcester, MA), pulling WPI to within two with no outs. They couldn't take advantage, however, falling short.

Freshman pitcher Craig Teed (Stratham, NH) struck out five in five-and-a-third innings in the loss. 

In game two, WPI was again behind early, giving up runs in the second and fifth. Colby-Sawyer junior pitcher PJ Singster (Sandown, N.H) pitched a gem, with a no-hitter going into the sixth inning before Capuano and freshman Vinny D'Ambrosio (Mahopac, NY) managed singles. The Engineers couldn't get on the board, and Singster settled for a two-hit complete game shutout.

Freshman pitcher Miles Schuler (Murrieta, CA) gave up only two runs in four-and-two-thirds innings in taking the loss, and sophomore reliever Taylor Landry (Kennebunk, ME) allowed just three hits and no runs in two-and-a-third.

WPI is back on the field on Tuesday, March 12th when they travel to Johnson & Wales for a 3:30pm.
