AUBURNDALE, Fla. – Another day in the books for the Oswego State baseball team (6-3) on its Spring Break trip yielded a split in a doubleheader against Vassar (4-1) on Monday. Oswego State got out to a 4-0 lead in the first contest and never looked back, holding on for the 4-1 win. Vassar took the second game 7-2 in a strong pitching effort against the Oswego State, holding the Lakers to five hits.
 
Adam Bishop (Sr., Camillus, N.Y.) cruised to the win by shutting down the Brewers' bats in the first game, pitching a complete game three-hitter while allowing only one run. The Lakers compiled all fours run of the game by the third inning, scoring two runs in the second and third each.  Mike McMullen (Jr., Syrcause, N.Y.) helped jumpstart the Lakers with an RBI double in the second scoring Tim Smith (Jr., Auburn, N.Y.), followed by a single up the middle by Scott Buniak (Jr., Clifton Park, N.Y.) scoring McMullen. Smith singled down the right field line in the third, scoring Mike Mascari (Jr., Syracuse, N.Y.) and Alex Jurczynski (Sr., Schenectady, N.Y.). Vassar added its lone run of the game in the fourth.
 
In the second contest, the Brewers broke out to a 6-0 lead in the early stages and put a damper on the Lakers' offense to pick up the 7-2 win. Oswego State scored its only runs in the top of the sixth highlighted by an RBI double by Mike Stark (Sr., Rochester, N.Y.) scoring Ed Charles (Sr., Auburn, N.Y.). Jordan Giller (Fr., Toronto, Ontario) reached base on an error later in the inning allowing Stark to score. Vassar added an additional run in the bottom half of the sixth to make for the final score of 7-2 in favor of the Brewers.
 
Oswego State starter Miles Kelly (Fr., Clifton Park, N.Y.) allowed six runs (two earned) in 1.2 innings of work, picking up the loss. Pat Brown (Jr., Liverpool, N.Y.), Nick Wheeler (Jr., Syracuse, N.Y.), and Chris Nyman (Sr., Clifton Park, N.Y.) combined for one run, three hits, and four strikeouts in 4.1 innings of relief.
 
The Lakers pick up action again on Wednesday when they take on Hope at noon in Florida.
