Bridgewater Takes Two at Guilford

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Derrik Walling tallied five hits in Bridgewater College's Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) doublehader sweep of Guilford College Saturday. The Eagles claimed game one, 10-2, and game two, 5-0.

The Bridgewater (13-5, 7-0 ODAC) bats exploded in the third inning of game one. The Eagles strung together four consecutive RBI singles to right field, followed by a Darren Yoder three-run homer to left field, which put Bridgewater up, 7-0. The Quakers (10-13, 3-7 ODAC) scored a run in the fourth and sixth, but could not overcome the deficit.

Game two started much slower. The Eagles had a 1-0 lead heading into the seventh inning. Will James (1-5) took the loss, but only allowed one run in his first six innings. A Walling two-run single up the middle gave Bridgewater a 3-0 edge. Justin Morrison replaced James and allowed two runs in two innings pitched before Tyler Tuttle pitched a scoreless ninth.

The Eagles' Bryan Sanderson went 3-for-5 during game one. Yoder led with three RBI on two hits. Ryan Smith added two RBI during the first game. Walling led game two with two hits and two RBI. Brendan Howell also had two hits. Christian Armentrout (2-0) claimed the first victory, while Robert Gallet (3-2) took the nightcap, pitching six scoreless innings.

Guilford's Kent Peterson had four hits over the two games and John Macon Smith added three. Peterson and Corey Wallace both doubled in the nightcap. Drew Crawford (1-2) took the loss in game one, allowing seven earned runs in 2.2 innings. Reliever Chad Wagoner threw 5.1 innings and allowed three earned runs.

The Quakers host visiting conference-foe Roanoke College Wednesday, Mar. 27 at 3:00 p.m. at McBane Field.
