Guilford Stifles Roanoke, 6-1, in ODAC Action

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Chad Wagoner threw 5.2 innings of scoreless relief and Herc Ingels had three hits in Guilford College's 6-1 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) baseball win over visiting Roanoke College Wednesday.

The Quakers' Kent Peterson had a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first to plate Ingels, putting Guilford (11-13, 4-7 ODAC) ahead 1-0. The Maroons (9-15, 2-7 ODAC) scored their run after the Quakers' Dylan Clark walked home a batter with the bases loaded, which brought the southpaw Wagoner into the game. Guilford continued to expand its lead, scoring an unanswered three runs in the third and another two in the eighth. 

Wagoner scattered six hits in his first victory of the season. Justin Morrison and Tyler Tuttle each pitched a scoreless inning. Jordan Slate was 2-for-3 with an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning. Peterson had a team-high two RBI and one hit. John Macon Smith and Dan Ditota both had two hits.

Boone Hagy and Brian Kluge shared team-high hits honors (2) for the Maroons. Kluge had the team's lone RBI. Mark Wimmer (2-2) claimed the loss on the mound for Roanoke. He allowed four earned runs in four innings pitched. Tyler Grouten pitched two scoreless innings before Cameron Holshouser took over, allowing two earned runs in two innings.

The Quakers meet Greensboro College Thursday (3/28) at 6:00 p.m. in a contest played at NewBridge Bank Park in downtown Greensboro.
