Patchogue, N.Y. (3/28/13) – Senior Nick Ramagli scored three Cougar runs in addition to launching his first homerun of the season as #5/6 Kean University sailed past St. Joseph's College-L.I., 10-1, Thursday afternoon.
In their first east coast road game of the season, Kean used back-to-back multi run innings to take an early 8-1 lead on their way to improving to 15-4 this season. Ramagli finished with a 3-for-4 day with two RBI and three runs scored.
Leading 1-0 heading into the third, Ramagli got the scoring going with an RBI single. Rookie Salvatore Taormina pushed the lead out to 4-0 with a two RBI double, one of five extra base hits on the day for Kean. The Cougars plated four more in the fourth, to extend the lead to 8-1. Junior Joe O'Connor provided the key blast, a two run triple to right center. O'Connor recorded his 12th career triple, tying the Cougar career mark.
Rookie Emilio Calderon picked up his second win of the season after tossing six and a third innings allowing just one run. He fanned three and walked two as the Golden Eagles collected 10 hits. Freshman Andrew Torres recorded the final eight outs, with two strikeouts.
Taormina led the way with three RBI on the day while sophomore Andy Lopez kept his hot hitting going with two hits and two RBI.
The Cougars open up NJAC play on Saturday when they travel to Rutgers-Camden for an 11:30 a.m. first pitch.
