Saints Defeat In-State Rival Centre, 14-5, To Sweep Season Series

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - The Thomas More College baseball team defeated in-state rival Centre College, 14-5, today (Wednesday, April 17, 2013) at Thomas More Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky to sweep the two-game season series.

With the win, the Saints improve to 20-7 overall and the Colonels fall to 11-21.

The Saints scored three runs in the first, four in the third, six in the fifth and one in the eighth, while holding Centre to one in the fourth, one in the eighth and three in the ninth for the 14-5 victory.

Freshman pitcher Logan Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) earned the win on the mound as he pitched six innings and gave up one run (earned) on seven hits and struck out four.

Freshman second baseman Marcus Woelfel (Harrison, Ohio/Harrison) led the Thomas More at the plate as she was three-for-four with a double, three runs batted-in and two runs scored. Four other Saints had multiple hits in the game as senior shortstop David Kennett (Grove City, Ohio/Grove City) was two-for-five with four RBI and two runs scored, junior third baseman Travis Miller (Erlanger, Ky./St. Henry) was two-for-four with two RBI and two runs scored, sophomore designated hitter Craig Hyson (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) was two-for-three with a RBI and a run scored and freshman first baseman Donovan Pogue (Sharonville, Ky./St. Xavier) was two-for-four with a RBI and a run scored.

The Saints return to action on Friday (April 19) when they open a three-game road series at Waynesburg University with a single nine-inning game. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania.
