Union, NJ: The Ramapo College baseball team defeated rivals William Paterson University, 6-2, and Kean University, 6-5; to advance to the NJAC Championship tomorrow afternoon.
The #5 Roadrunners (28-13-1) will now take on #3 Rowan University (31-12) at noon at host Kean University.
In their first game of the day, Ramapo defeated WPU, 6-2 to advance in the tournament to face Kean in the final elimination game of the day.
Against Kean, Ramapo got on the board in the bottom of the first inning as senior Dave Jacob drove home rookie Joe Venturino for the games first run.
Kean scored two in the second inning and one in the fourth to take a 3-1 lead.
In the 7th for the Roadrunners, rookie Ryan Rinksy drove home junior Brandon Berger before sophomore Kevin Kelly scored on an fielder's choice from sophomore pinch hitter Kevin Case, 3-3.
Kean added two runs in the top of the 8th to take a 5-3 lead before Ramapo came back to tie the game in the bottom of the inning. Jacob would score on a wild pitch before Berger scored on a pass ball to tie the game at five.
In the top of the ninth, Ramapo reliever senior Dan LaRocca would strike out the final batter of the inning with runners on first and second. In the bottom of the ninth, Jacob reached base on an error before stealing second. He would then advance to third on a throwing error by the Kean catcher.
With two outs, sophomore Chris Werr took the third pitch of his at bat and laced a single past the diving first baseman allowing Jacob to touch home plate with the game winning run, 6-5.
LaRocca (5-4) earned the win for Ramapo as he struck out one and walked one in one full inning of relief.
Jacob finished the game 3-5 with two runs scored and one RBI.
