Rams Drop Non-Conference Game Against ECSU

Eastern Connecticut - 11, Farmingdale State - 2


Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State baseball team fell, 11-2, in a non-conference home game against Eastern Connecticut this afternoon.

Junior second baseman Corey Keane (Tolland, Conn.) led off the top of the second with a triple and scored on the Warriors (1-1) next at-bat off a Kyle Hart (Guilford, Conn.) RBI single. Later in the inning, junior centerfielder Joe Perez (North Branford, Conn.) hit a 2 RBI triple to left center to put Eastern Connecticut ahead 3-0. Perez would score on a wild pitch to increase the lead to 4-0.

With two outs in the top of the third, senior left fielder Nick Ververis (Plainfield, Conn.) gave the Warriors a 5-0 lead on an RBI single.

Eastern Connecticut added two runs in the fifth, three in the seventh and one in the eighth to extend the lead to 11-0. Farmingdale State (2-1) scored two in the bottom of the ninth but dropped their first game of the season.

The Rams were led by freshman left fielder Richard Sullivan (Farmingdale, N.Y.) and junior second baseman Mike Scarlato (Holbrook, N.Y.) who were each 2-for-4 at the plate, while freshman Kevin de Castro (Bethpage, N.Y.) had two hits in two at-bats.

Perez was 2-for-5 with two runs scored and 4 RBI, while senior third baseman Mike Vaccarelli (Wolcott, Conn.) had a game-high three hits for the Warriors.

Senior starting pitcher Greg Porter (1-0) (Mystic, Conn.) earned the win after throwing five scoreless innings and striking out eight.

Farmingdale State next will host Plattsburgh State in a doubleheader on Sunday, March 9th at noon.
