Paul Perez Pitching Gem Helps Split Doubleheader vs Skidmore in Extra Innings

Paul Perez pitched a complete game going 10 innings, allowing 12 hits and only one run to lead the baseball team to a 2-1 win over the Thoroughbreds of Skidmore College on Saturday afternoon in Fort Myers, Florida.

John Yuksekol had the winning hit in the 10th with a walk-off RBI single to score Eric Ulino for the second game doubleheader win.

Perez also struck out six batters to earn his first win of the season.

The Bearcats trailed early 1-0, but a Philip Loprete RBI single in the fourth inning scored Nicholas Pomo-Roman to tie the contest.

The Bearcats totaled six hits and did not commit an error to end the afternoon on a positive note.

In the first game that started at 9:00 am, the two teams also played extra innings, but the Thoroughbreds walked off with a 9-8 victory in nine innings.  

The Thoroughbreds jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first, but the Bearcats' bats came alive in the sedcond inning by scoring seven runs on six hits.

Ryan Jacobs, Zachary Uher and Pomo-Roman each had an RBI, while Loprete and Angel Tejada each smacked a two-run single for the 7-3 lead after two innings.

The Thoroughbreds battled back in the sixth inning with five runs on three hits and three errors by the Bearcats to take back the advantage at 8-7.

Dan Daley hit a sacrifice fly to score Emerson Del Carmen in the seventh inning to force the extra innings.    

Dan Miller, who batted 3-for-5 with five RBI for the Thoroughbreds, hit an RBi single for the walk-off win in the eight inning.

The Bearcats will return to action tomorrow at the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers with a 12:00 pm contest against Monmouth of Illinois.
