The Webster University baseball team improved to 3-1 in Florida, with a 9-3 win over Wartburg College, on March 11, in Lakeland.  The Gorloks muscled up for their first two home runs of the season and Zach Schneider pitched six shutout innings for the win.

Schneider (SR, Grayslake, IL/Warren Township HS) allowed six hits and three walks in his six innings of work, striking out three.  Schneider only pitched 15 innings in 2013 after missing the complete 2012 season with an injury.

Webster banged out 12 hits, led by Joe Winckel (SR, Bonne Terre, MO/North County HS).  Winckel finished the day 3-5, with a home run, double, and three RBIs.  Ryan Hall (SR, Chesterfield, MO/Eureka HS) was 2-5, with a home run and two RBIs.
Jeff Kammer (Chesterfield, MO/Jefferson College) was 2-4, with three runs scored, and an RBI.

The Gorloks took a 2-0 lead in the third when Corey Lasky (SR, Vernon Hills, IL/Adlai E Stevenson HS) reached on an error and scored when Hall hit Webster's first home run of the season.

In the fifth, Hall and Taylor Stoulp (SR, St. Louis, MO/St. Mary's HS) both singled, but Hall was thrown out stealing third.  Kammer singled home Stoulp, and Winckel followed with a first pitch blast for the Gorloks second round-tripper of the day, to make it 5-0.

Webster added three more in the seventh.  After Kammer singled and stole second, Winckel double him home.  Winckel was thrown out stealing third but Jared Turner (SR, Springfield, IL/Chatham Glenwood HS) walked and scored on a double by pinch-hitter Charlie Gandolfi (JR, Mundelein, IL/Mundelein HS).  Matt Wollnik (FR, Naperville, IL/Neuqua Valley HS) then singled Gandolfi home to make it 8-0 Gorloks.

Brett Buchanan (SR, Villa Park, IL/Willowbrook HS) came on in relief of Schneider and pitched the final three innings.  After a scoreless seventh, Buchanan got touched for three runs in the eighth.  A double and home run made it 8-2 Webster, and Wartburg added a third run on a Gorlok throwing error.

Buchanan allowed three hits, two earned runs, and struck out two in earning his first save of the season.

The Gorloks added one more run in the bottom of the eighth to make it a 9-3 final.

After a day off, Webster will face #12 ranked Marietta College (OH) on March 13 at Port Charlotte, FL.
