The Oglethorpe baseball team finished its stay at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational in Winter Haven, Fla., in fine form Thursday morning, defeating Gallaudet 6-4. The Stormy Petrels end their stay at the event with a 1-2 record, and improve to 10-10 on the season, with the victory.

The Petrels fell behind 2-0 in the third, but answered right back with a three-run bottom half of the inning. First baseman Patrick Kulick doubled to score the first run, as catcher Hunter Riley came around to score. Second baseman Keith Dearden followed with an RBI single, scoring Kulick. The Petrels scored their third run of the inning when right fielder Joey McAlpin reached on an error, extending the inning.

The Petrels extended their lead to 4-2 in the next inning, as center fielder Vernon Trice came through with an RBI single which scored Riley again. The Petrels' 4-2 lead was erased on a two-run homer from Gallaudet in the top of the seventh, though. The score was tied, 4-4.

The Petrels again answered back in the bottom half of the inning. They loaded the bases for Trice, and he gave the Petrels the lead for good with a bases-loaded walk. Oglethorpe extended their lead to 6-4 on the next batter, when the Gallaudet hurler threw a run-scoring wild pitch.

The two-run lead was all the Petrels would need, as David Langhan and Patrick Kulick successfully closed the game down from there. Langham picked up the win, improving his record to 2-1 on the season. He allowed one earned run on two hits and no walks over two innings. Kulick picked up his team-leading fourth save of the season for his work in the ninth inning. He allowed two hits and no runs in preserving the two-run victory.

Riley was a perfect 2-for-2 on the day with two walks, a stolen base and three runs scored. Trice went 3-for-4 with a walk, a stolen base and two RBIs, while Dearden went 2-for-4 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored.

The Petrels will now take a week off from game action for spring break. They return home Wednesday to take on former SCAC opponent DePauw at 7 p.m. on Anderson Field.
