More news about: Husson

Bangor, ME - Husson baseball earned a big NAC doubleheader win against U. Maine Farmington Wednesday afternoon at Winkin Complex by finals of 2-1 and 3-1. The Eagles came from behind in game one and used some timely hitting to take the lead and never look back in game two.

Game 1:

Husson allowed Farmington's only run of the game on a Jordan Croteau single in the second inning. Jimmy Neal advanced to second on the play and Dustin McCrossin scored to make it 1-0.

Dan Whitney allowed nine hits but only the one run in all seven innings. Whitney did well to keep the Beavers off the board despite their hit total. Whitney was in and around the zone all day throwing 62 of his 85 pitches for strikes, striking out four and not allowing a single walk.

The Eagles scored their tying and go-ahead runs with two outs in the top of the seventh. Catcher Jordan Carter was hit by a pitch in the leadoff spot and Seth Freudenberger pinch ran for him at first. Ben McLain laid down a sacrifice in the next at-bat to push Freudenberger to second. Cody McInnis then walked and was thrown out at second on a Dylan Foster fielders choice on the next play. With two outs and runners on the corners, Brand Gendreau singled to left scoring Freudenberger and advancing Foster. J.T. Whitten joined the party to give Husson their 2-1 lead in the next at bat, singling through the right side of the infield to score the speedy Foster.

For Farmington, Joe Sullivan picked up the loss allowing two runs on five hits with three walks and five k's in six and two-thirds innings. Brandon Soper came into the game for the final out in the top of the seventh.

Whitten led the offense charge for the Eagles going 2-3 with a walk and the game-winning RBI. Gendreau also had an RBI going 1-4 and Dennis Meehan tallied two hits as well, going 2-4 in game one.

Game 2:

Husson picked up three third-inning runs en route to a 3-1 win in game two. Tim Nason went six full, giving up seven hits and an earned run in the winning decision. Ryan Rebar picked up the save in the seventh walking just one facing four batters.

The Eagles mounted another two out rally for their runs in the second tilt. With two down Dennis Meehan singled to third advancing J.T. Whitten to second and Dylan Foster to third. Kyle Bishop ended his cold streak from game one and doubled in the next at bat to score Foster and Whitten. On the next play Bishop moved to third and Meehan scored on a wild pitch to push the score to 3-0 Husson.

In the bottom of the frame Farmington put together a rally of their own. Jordan Croteau singled to center to lead off. Jimmy Neal popped up to third and Sean Cabaniss popped to first for two outs. However, Brett Wallingford extended the inning, singling and advanced to second on the throw putting Croteau at third. First baseman Ben Keene stepped in and singled to second in the next at bat scoring Croteau, but the lone run is all Farmington could muster.

Husson threatened again in the top of the seventh by loading the bases with no one out, but the Eagles failed to scored after being cut down at home in two straight at bats and popping out for the third out.

Kyle Peterson picked up the loss for the Beavers in six innings, giving up three runs (all earned) on five hits and three walks while striking out two. Bradley Jackson came in for the seventh and thwarted the bases-loaded, nobody-out situation for UMF.

With the wins Husson improves to 5-7 on the season and will finally play as the home team in their own park this weekend in four games against New England College on Saturday and Sunday. Farmington drops to 3-10.
