BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Bridgewater College senior Robert Gallet pitched eight shutout innings Thursday afternoon to lead the Eagles to a 6-0 victory over the University of Mary Washington in non-conference baseball action. The win was the sixth in a row for Bridgewater.

Gallet allowed just seven hits in his eight innings of work. He struck out seven and did not walk a batter to improve to 2-1 on the season. Gallet lowered his ERA to 1.23 on the season. Lefties Jordan Showalter and Tyler Conley combined to work a 1-2-3 ninth inning to finish off the shutout.

Bridgewater (17-7) broke open a scoreless game with four runs in the third against Mary Washington starter Ben Sisk.

Kenner Berry led off the inning with a double to right center and Ryan Fitzgerald followed with a double to the gap in left center to put the Eagles on the board. With two outs, Justin Petock singled to center, scoring Fitzgerald for a 2-0 lead. Petock moved to third on a single by Hynes with Hynes continuing to second on the throw from the outfield. Both runners scored on a Mary Washington fielding error, making the score 4-0.

Bridgewater added single runs in the fourth and fifth to complete the scoring.

Fitzgerald beat out an infield single to reach first with one out in the fourth. After Cavin Clyde flied out the right, Fitzgerald swiped second to move into scoring position. Fitzgerald took third on a wild pitch and scored when Bryan Sanderson's grounder was misplayed for an error, allowing the Eagles to take a 5-0 lead.

With one out in the fifth, Bay Liskey reached on a walk. Liskey was then picked off first, but was safe at second when Kevin Stein, the Mary Washington shortstop, muffed the throw. Liskey scored on Darren Yoder's single, making the score 6-0.

Fitzgerald and Petock finished with two hits each to account for half of Bridgewater's eight hits on the day. Fitzgerald drove home one run and scored twice while Petock scored a run and drove in a run. Yoder was 1-for-2 for the Eagles and also had one run batted in.

Thomas Weaver and Jason Keller each had two hits for the visitors. Mary Washington is now 12-14 on the season.
