(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - Senior third baseman Travis Miller (Erlanger, Ky./St. Henry) hit a walk-off double in the 10th inning to give the Thomas More College baseball team a 3-2, win over Grove City College today (Saturday, April 5, 2014) in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) single nine-inning game at Thomas More Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the win, the Saints improve to 10-8 overall and 6-1 in the PAC and with the loss, the Wolverines fall to 4-12 overall and 2-5 in the PAC.
Thomas More took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first with a run and Grove City tied the game with a run in the top of the second and then took a 2-1 lead with a run in the sixth. The Saints tied the game at 2-2 with a run in the bottom of the eighth. In the bottom of the 10th Miller hit a walk-off double, scoring sophomore designated hitter Donovan Pogue (Sharonville, Ohio/St. Xavier) for the 3-2 extra inning win.
Freshman center fielder Casey Metzger (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) led the team at the plate as he was three-for-five with a run scored. Senior shortstop Tyler Graber (Plain City, Ohio/Jonathan Alder) was two-for-four with a run scored and Miller was one-for-five with a run batted-in.
Sophomore pitcher Logan Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) started and had a no-decision as he pitched seven innings and gave up two runs (both earned) on 10 hits and struck out seven, while walking one batter. Senior pitcher Andy Roenker (Taylor Mill, Ky./Holy Cross) earned the win as he pitched three shutout innings of relief and didn't allow a hit, while striking out one.
Thomas More and Grove City will close out the three-game PAC series tomorrow (Sunday, April 6) with a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. at Thomas More Field.
