Aston, PA – Keystone College's baseball team pushing their winning steak to 11 games on Friday afternoon with a 6-2 victory over Neumann University in a Colonial States Athletic Conference game at Neumann. The Giants, who have now won 18 of their last 20 contests, improve to 21-11 on the season and 14-2 in conference play while the Knights see their record slide to 14-16 overall and 7-6 in the CSAC.
Keystone took a 1-0 lead in the first at-bats when Domenick Montanaro (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Egg Harbor Township) scored on an RBI groundout by Ricky Riscica (Greenwich, CT/Greenwich), but Neumann leveled the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the first inning when AJ Koscelansky singled home Matt Sheneman.
Tyler Gurman (Bronx, NY/Lehman) put the Giants back in front with a solo home run – his first of the season - to right field in the top of the second inning before Kevin Luciano (Everett, MA/Cambridge Rindge and Latin School) scored on a wild pitch to give Keystone a 3-1 advantage.
Riscica singled to right field in the visitor's fourth to score Louis Reyes (Port St. Lucie, FL/Treasure Coast), who drove in Montanaro with a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning as the Giants opened up a 5-1 lead.
The Knights got a run back in the bottom of the seventh inning as Buddy Elgin singled down the left field line to bring home Ryan Clark, but Keystone closed out the scoring in the top of the ninth inning when Montanaro scored his third run of the day when Ricky Riscica (Greenwich, CT/Greenwich) hit into a fielder's choice.
Mike Pembleton (Oakhurst, NJ/Ocean Township) improve to 4-1 on the mound this season after going seven strong innings in which he allowed two runs on six hits while fanning four batters on the day. Adam Sosnowski (Dickson City, PA/Mid-Valley) gave up one hit in a scoreless eighth inning while Steve Aniska (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) struck out a pair of batters in a scoreless ninth inning to close out the game.
Gaston Rojas (Carmel, NY/Carmel) led all players with three hits in the win for Keystone when Montanaro and Reyes adding two hits apiece. Riscica collected three RBIs while Montanaro scored three runs for the Giants. Montanaro and Rojas stole two bases apiece in the victory.
Jalen Burks (1-2) was charged with the loss for Neumann after allowing three runs on three hits in the first 1.2 innings on the hill. Adam Holowienka yielded one run on two hits in 3.1 innings of work, Ted Fletcher surrendered one run on two hits in two innings, and Zach Youngberg allowed one run on three hits in the final two innings for the Knights.
Elgin and Kye Williams had two hits apiece to lead Neumann in the loss.
Keystone and Neumann will close out their regular season series on Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader to be played at Keystone's Christy Mathewson Field beginning at 12:00 noon. The Giants can lock up the top seed for the upcoming CSAC playoffs with a win in either of Saturday's two games.
