Farmingdale State Holds Off Rutgers-Camden in Regionals Win

Newark, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State baseball team improved to 26-11 and advance to a 4:30 p.m. winners bracket game on Thursday, May 15th with a 4-2 victory over #4 seed Rutgers-Camden. The Rams will now face the winner of #1 Cortland/#8 Castleton State, while Camden faces the loser of that game tomorrow at 10:00 a.m.

Farmingdale State jumped on the board early scoring two runs in both the second and third innings. In the second, junior shortstop Tom Rydzewski (Franklin Sqare, N.Y) led off with a single to right, before stealing second and third. He was brought home on senior designated hitter Daniel Paccione's (Commack, N.Y.) double to right center for the first run of the game. Paccione stole home for the second run of the inning and a 2-0 lead.

In the third, freshman catcher Kenneth Johntry (Yaphank, N.Y.) opened the inning with a double to right, before senior rightfielder Edward Bergmann (East Meadow, N.Y.) bunted for a single and Johntry came around to score on a throwing error. Bergmann came home off a single by junior Michael Marino (Franklin Square, N.Y.) for a 4-0 Rams advantage.

The Scarlet Raptors made it 4-1 in the fourth inning and cut the deficit to 4-2 in the sixth with a homerun to right field by junior first baseman Connor Hall (Delran, N.J.). Rams senior pitchers Chris Dragone and Michael Dolce held Rutgers-Camden to just two hits over the final three innings.

Senior pitcher Timmy Trimarchi (Hauppauge, N.Y.) got the win for Farmingdale State, hurling 1.1 innings allowing just two hits. Dolce threw the final inning with no hits for the save, his second of the season. Sophomore pitcher Alex Weingarten (East Rockaway, N.Y.) allowed three hits over 4.2 innings with four strikeouts.
